Ok Since i have nothing better to do (and because this might be useful)
We could start some sort of Guide filled with the way you play a certain class What are the advantages what are the disadvantages What weapons would you use What Spells come in Handy Why would you use this class What is it's Quest etc. This could be a Nice way to introduce Newbies to the different classes to As First part of this "Guide" i chose (ofcourse) my favorite Class So post your opinion about the mage and how you play How do you play the Mage?o ------------------ |

Advantages = Cheeper than a mage because they don't have to buy spells, more directed towards battle magic and a lot easier to play.
Disadvantages = Not as versitile as a normal mage and can't cast the smae massive number of spells. Weapons = Staff of the magi, any good sling or the firetooth dagger. Spells = Chromatic orb, stoneskin Albi-dazims anything a mage would use. Why = Sheer destructive power and it makes a nice change from fighters/barbarians/paladins. Quest = None, if you play mage you get the planar sphear. Opinion = Mage is better but both are fun... |

I almost always play magic-users, and as a general rule a mage should be first and foremost concerned with his/her own safety and well-being at all times.
Any mage who lives past 3rd level has done so because they are intelligent, crafty and cunning. As such, they would have to be strongly defensive-minded and always protect themselves before attacking or protecting anyone else. I could be here all day listing all the spells I like a mage to have, but in general, a wide variety of spells with a wide variety of effects should be memorized (i.e. not just 4 fireballs or 5 magic missiles memorized.) More shall come later. ------------------ a bunch of long hairs. trux |

If I ever play a mage It's never a sorcerer tried one in the first level but they are just too limited in the number of spells they can use,( correct me if I'm wrong but the spell storing devices won't work because sorcerers don't memorize.) I always go for conjurers because the only school they loose is divination and the only divination I ever use is I.D. item and there are so many ways around not having that spell. The best one I think is that right at the begining of chapter two go upstairs after talking to pidgeon boy (coo!) there will a thief who will sell you a pair of magic glasses that anyone can use to id and they are CHEAP. My favorite mage was a Berserker/mage with two weapon + katana mastery. In the collector ed there is a sales woman upstairs at Ribalds to sell you Dakamon's zerth blade +2 and bonus mage spells lvl 1-4+ rings of wizardry/acuity+elven chain or better= Ultimate Tank Mage. simply brutal.

To much time...
I'm gonna answer myself Advantages: It is Fun To play - When you are a mage you can chose yourself the way you attack and it requeres strategy as you have only a limited amount of spells They are Versetile - They can kill a group of small creatures or one big creature at the same efficency if something has resistance a mage can always work around it -Sorcerer- You have acces to all your spells- You never know whether you need to use fireball or fire arrow and with a sorcerer you can chose bothwithout havink to chose Disadvantages: High AC-Not prepared a Mage is an easy prey - however if they are prepared they are very strong They need strategy - It is not just point at an oppentent en hope you win you have to prepare you strategy however this can also be seen as an advantage -sorcerer- If you pick the wrong spells your character will not be able to use the full capacity of it's character so you need to have good spell knowlegde before starting a Sorcerer Weapons: Good Mage weapons and equipment are: Robe of Vecna Robe of Archmagi Staff of the Magi Amulet of Power Fire tooth Sling +5 Ring of Wizardry Ring of Accuty Spells: Level 1: Magic Missle - Identify - Find Familiar - Chromatic Orb Level 2: Agannazars Scorcher - Blur - Acid Arrow - Mirror Image level 3: Melfs minute Metoers - Flame Arrows - FireBall Level 4: Flame Shield - Stoneskin - Minor Sequencer Level 5: Cloudkill - Cone of Cold - Lower Resistance (very important) Level 6: Breach - Death Spell - Mislead - Pierce Magic - True Sight Level 7: Finger of Death - Khelben Warding Whip- Delayed blast fireball- Ruby ray of Reversal Level 8: Abi Dalzims Horrid Wilting - Pierce Shield - Spell Trigger Level 9: Time Stop - Spellstrike - Freedom ------------------ |
