I'm pretty sure in the P&P D&D game a Druid is restricted to druidic weapons, even if s/he is proficient in other weapons (by multiclassing or being an elf, for exmple). Does this apply in this game?

There are absolutely no weapon restrictions in this game whatsoever

I always have my clerics using greataxes

Marty, if your character isn't proficient in a weapon, he gets -4 to hit with it. And Clerics start off only proficient with Simple Weapons.

Well yea, but you can add points into any martial weapon you want, especially if you take a few melee levels.

But in 2nd edition, druids were restricted in weapons. Not in the 3rd.

Page 34 of my 3e Player's Handbook:

Quote:
Druids are proficient with the following weapons: club, dagger, dart, longspear, quarterstaff, scimitar, sickle, shortspear, and sling. Their spiritual oaths prohibit them from using weapons other than these. They are proficient with light and medium armors but are prohibited from wearing metal armor (thus they may only wear padded, leather, or hide armor). They are skilled with shields but may only use wooden ones.

Interesting, I didn't play a druid in 3rd edition yet, I assumed they got rid of the restriction like they did the other classes.

Well. That is a mistake in the manual. The way it is implemented in the game is that druids can add proficiency points to and use any weapon.

Restricting them actually make sense. Clerics are generic priests that can worship any particular god the player chose, so they need to have versatility so that players can customize them as they want. But druids follow a particullar faith, so it make sense they would have some restrictions.

My only complaint is that they dumbed down that restriction. In first edition if I remember well, they specified you couldn't use complex items made of metals because those were not from nature and you had to plunder nature to get them, os something like that. Now they just arbitrally list stuff and doesn't explain why they can't use anything else.

I currently am running a cleric/druid in splint mail, wielding a warhammer and a shield. So... unless cleric levels have unlocked the druid restrictions, then there are none.
