I need help. I love the whole BG and IWD Games and so naturally I bought the NW series but the problem is that in this new 3D mode my fram rate is crawling! I need help on suggestions to get the game to run more smoothly. Its so slow its like playing online games over a slow dialup line. I hate this any help will be much appreciated. Here are my specs:
Operating System: Windows XP 5.1
Processor: Intel Celeron 900 MHZ
Memory: 640 MB Ram
Direct X 8.1
Video Card: Radeon 7000 AGP

Thanks Again.

I've never used "Trace FPS", but I'm guess it's simply a real time readout of the number frames per second that is being rendered.

As for tips to improve your framerates, well, you've plenty of RAM, and although a Celeron 900 is dated and doesn't pack much of a punch, it should be sufficient when coupled with a power graphics card (which a Radeon 7000 is not). So a new Graphics card should be high on your list of upgrade prioities. How good you go depends entirely on your budget, but the best cards in terms of value/performance are the Radeon 9600 cards at the moment. Here in Britain, £125 ($200 ish) will get a 9600 XT, which is the top of the 9600 line.

Buying a top of the line card is pointless with a 900 celery ( unless you are running at above 1028X768 resolution. A geforce3 ti-geforce 4 5600 or a ATI rad3on 9600 should be as much as your cpu can keep up with.

NEVER buy the very best electronic thing.. it is 3X the cost of the second best thing and NEVER worth it. (EVER) Pay attention to how much texture memory
is on the card. More texture memory the better shoot for 128.

www.pricewatch.com

ATI Radeon 9600 128MB DDR AGP8X DVI+CRT+TVO powered by ati - 93.75 after shipping.
GeForceFX 5600 128MB DDR W/DVI & TV Out 8X AGP Video Card - 91.00 after shipping.

buying better than this is not advised for your pc.

As these both fully support directx 9.0 and open gl. you are set for games.

Also in the while you wait for your new card. Remove and extra programs from your systray, and startup menu.

Run the configuration for NWN and set you graphics and sound quality to
medium-low. Download the newest drivers for your video card and defrag your heard drive.

Happy hollidays - mabee you will get a vid card for x-mas.

please upgrade your DirectX immediately.
you should be running DX 9.0b, not 8.1. you should also make sure you get into the habit of upgrading all your drivers for all your hardware: sound card, video card, mouse & keyboard, any other peripherals you have installed on your system.

if you go with an ATI card, don't get a Radeon 9600, at least not for NWN. unfortunately, that is THE card with the most problems in NWN. get at least a 9700 or higher.
