So I went in at the gates, cleaned out the whole of the ground floor, (though I wasn't sure what to do about the altar with the demon fella), then I went upstairs, thinking that I'd clean that out and then go downstairs where I assumed the real action would be. Wrong! Stupid sealed exit on the second floor meant I couldn't go back and finish downstairs before taking Desther off to meet his fate. And I realised that my last save before going upstairs was outside the gate *sob*
 .So is there any way to get back downstairs? If not, is there much worth doing down there? Is there any items that I'll kick myself for not getting? Because if it's just a few monsters and random loot then I won't bother redoing it, but otherwise...

though the altar thing can give you a good item. if you banish the demon and do the other thing ( what it's name again? ).

Well if you can find a way back in there, you do get pretty decent XPs and loot for banishing the demon (and it's easy, the book to do it is right there in a small room off of the demon's room). But if you can't go back, don't sweat it, the loot isn't anything any more special than you will get later on.

- - - - - - - - Actually Helms ghost will give you a really good ring (15 resist(?) to cold, fire, acid and electricity - you ignore the first 15 points of elemental damage of every attack (laugh at Melf's acid arrow, fire arrows etc [img]smile.gif[/img] ))

All there is except for the alter thing is xp and random loot. You can also make a deal with the demon and get a clock of free movement instead of the ring. Also if you are a mage you can just make the ring in ch. 2 from one of the quest items.
