Eh? What did I miss???
And a rejection? How could I reject such a silvertongued flatterer such as yourself, mein Herzchen!
BTW, did you know we're performing a German piece with my choir this weekend? Hanns Eisler's Die Mutter, after Berthold Brecht's play!

guess most people don't actually read the thread, they just compulsively reply to all birthday threads
Ah well, can't see why Wendy would protest about a double birthday party

Yipee, one major step closer to reaching my goal of becoming a successful bigamist !

(And, please, excuse my ignorance : would that be an adaptation of "Mutter Courage" ? )

I never said I'd accept either (I'd probably just ignore the proposal...*cough* )

And nope, it's a play in its own right. It was based on Maxim Gorki's novel Mat (meaning Mutter/mother as well ) and it was also made into a movie. It's a wonderful piece, I love the communist lyrics, they are so typical of the Zeitgeist! They do make me laugh occasionally because of it, but at the same time they are so poignant! Our conductor is a great believer of interpretation and knowing what you sing, with the result that the choir gained a better appreciation for and insight into the struggles of the Arbeiters in communist countries.

Well, I must admit that you had already been very successful and thorough with that tactic before ...

Thank you very much ! And I think I know what you mean: looking at them from the safe distance of today works of the "socialistic realism" appear anachronistic but at the same time - and probably actually because of the anachronism - somewhat amusing, but touching as well. So many dreams that went unfulfilled, so much idealism "wasted" if not even abused ...

Wow - you put that into words so well!! That's exactly how I feel!!

Und bitte, weine nicht!! Vielleicht werde ich eines Tages dich noch heiraten...

BTW - have a very small speaking part in the opera! Yikes!
"Als wir über den Lybin-Prospekt kamen, waren wir schon viele Tausende. Etwa fünfzig Betriebe streikten, und die Streikenden schlossen sich uns an, um gegen den Krieg und gegen die zaristische Herrschaft zu demonstrieren."

How'd that sound?
