Is there anyway to use the elf mage from the tutorial in the actual game?

Xan?

Not really. He's a BG1 character that they left out of the game, so he gets a little face time. There might be a mod or two (TDD?) that lets you play with him, but no way in the standard game.

TDD does not have him IMHO. Look at the sticky thread concerning mods, i think that there is there some "xan" mod.

Or when you see him in the game (and you have cheats enabled) just press control+Q (this works on ANYTHING in the game) and he will join your party.

Its sad they left him out of the game, he was really a great character.. I really loved his cynical way of looking at life, and not to forget, his moonblade!

Awesome! I never realised there was a Xan mod...excellent! I loved his dreary pessimism immensely. Maybe I'll jot that down if ever I revisit the game in a couple of years! (too much to play now)

Xan has this nihilistic/almost buddhist thing going on in the sense that he seems to suffer so much in everything he says. Definitely a favourite of mine from Bg1.

Life...is so hollow

Our quest is vain!

I've never tried that Xan mod (but I will one day).

If anybody gives it a shot, please tell me how it is.

Agreed. It is still in Beta, so I'll wait for it to hit a full version.

Why is a "test" version of software called a Beta version? Just curious...
