Ahh The Bluebonnets...something truly beautiful to Texas' credit! Driving south I passed fields just full of them, it looked surreal!
Indian pinks, wild crocus and black-eyed susan line the roadways....wisteria and chinaberries in full bloom at Rex's parents along with a number of plants I have yet to learn the names of LOL! Our own chinaberries are blooming but are in need of fertilizer. 30 years of neglect takes a toll on anything, but Moni's working on it...saved the newest Queen's Crown (?) from dying from lack of sunlight by hauling over 50 large lawn bags full of dead vines and debris off the fences and some of the property, including the adjoining yard to the house next door which is used as a part-time business and is not well maintained beyond a guy mowing the yard once a month. By this time next month the fences will be covered in tiny pink flowering vines (and some giant ones that I just had to leave hanging in the trees since they are growing way up there) (I even dug the driveway out of four inches of dirt! It has a curb!!!) LOL I have a ten foot by eight foot patch of stinging nettles (OUCH!) to remove from one corner of the yard and the unveiling of a ten foot tall tree and another 8 foot long section of fence from their covering of old Queen's Crown. Noticed I have not been on the forum as much lately? LOL! That' why...the sun came out (finally) and the moon was new so I went to town so to speak on the yard. I imagine the trash men are wondering if it will EVER end! They currently have 14 bags of lawn trash from the work I did yesterday and the day before, not to mention a pile of old, small logs that I removed from the side of the house (uncovering the perfect place for a flower bed!) and the two cans I will be placing out there tonight with thee household garbage in them heh heh heh. I am having a blast and the neighbors are loving it! Even the school bus driver smiled and waved at me for the first time since I have been here! : ) Moni [This message has been edited by Moni (edited 04-03-2001).] |

I'm cultivating MOSS this year and generally reducing the amount of area that needs mowing. A very good plan!

Almost doing the same here Wyv! I covered the ground in one of the side yards last year with seeds that took off this year and carpeted the yard with low lying, wide-spreading plants that have tiny white and purlpe blossoms. It is just beautiful! No mowing necessary! (Rex appreciates that!)
The area I mentioned before for a flower garden is in the same "yard" (we have three yards, living on a corner in a house that sits on a 45 degree angle to the lot). There is an old pecan tree to add shade in the later hours of the afternoon too...it is just beautiful! I "found" (LOL) some old treated logs that are the perfect size for bordering the flower garden with. I'll have to rescue them from behind the stinging nettle patch. : ( : ) Moni |

Moni - I have a pair of fireplace/BBQ gloves of suede that would keep you safe!! (they go all the way up to my elbows!) I love ground covers!! Have some periwinkle and ivy that loves it here and spreads a little further every year! Such a treat to watch the gardens grow!! Hosta and Day Lily splitting for me soon!! And then the moss project - have 2 recipes for cultivating moss, hope they work!

I just got two new pairs of thick suede gardening gloves a few days ago! One in Purple and one in Pink! They only go past the wrist though (pout) so I am going to tackle it in the earlier morning hours when there is still a chill enough to make wearing a long sleeved shirt comfortable.
Our ivy and ferns are taking right off...I need to make time for the front sections of the yard that we have bordered off for these things before I lose a garden hose and a rake that have bee claimed by the ivy! ; ) Thanks for your offer on the gloves LOL and Good luck with the moss project! : ) Moni |
