Um, Chewbacca? You are over-analyzing.
Example:a white wolf counts as not a black wolf or a grey wolf. So, in saying "All but two", it could mean other than two wolves.

EDIT- i'll explain why i think so. if there were 3 wolves then all but the other two were white. all but the other two were gray and all but the other two were black.

Whadda ya mean three wolves?

There were seventeen wolves.

The chase was only spotted by an observer after one minute. At first the woman followed two black wolves and nine grey ones for a minute. Then they dissapeared into the dense forest. When they came out sixty seconds later, there were six black wolves and two white ones running past. The woman looked down on some paper for two minutes to write this interesting fact down. When she looked up there were two white wolves, a grey wolf and a black wolf running past. She followed them for about 120 seconds as they chased the rabbit through the fields into it's hole, and then scattered.

I should have said 3 wolves. To me, when you say "all", that's a way to speak and make trouble in the mind of who is searching the answer ?

(Hope I'm clear in my explanation. If not, sorry, but English is not my mother tongue).
