Alas, I must uninstall, the reinstall this game. For once it is not something I did!!!

Anyhow, I have done the standard go to start menu, select programs, black isle, BGIISoA, selected uninstall and got the message "uninstall sucessfully completed." So far, so good, right?

Well, when I go to "my computer," program files, black isle, BGIISoA, there are a whole bunch of files, two of which start old, corrupted games. What can/should I remove to ensure I get all the corrupted data out? A few years back, I had a similar problem with Print Shop. When I just deleted all the files in the folder, it wrought havoc on my system (somehow I deleted all sorts of application paths and 'dlls'). I do not wish to repeat that unhappy episode.

This techno-dope will appreciate any and all assistance. Please do not hesitate to state the obvious - it ain't always obvious to me

Here's what's happening. Certain save files are purposely not erased by the uninstall. Same deal with BG1. When I installed bg2 I was overjoyed to find that my save files from bg1 were still there even though I had uninstalled the game months ago. This is obviously very bad if those files happen to be corrupted. You will have to manually trash the files, but once they are gone everything should work fine. Try deleting the whole C:\Program Files\Black Isle\BGII - SoA directory and then resinstalling.

The only modifications (modded?) I did was add the Debug Mode=1 so I can use "ExploreArea" cheat, added custom portraits and downloaded patches.

I did the uninstall from the BGIISoA drop down menu but have not used Explorer.
Previously, I have used Explorer to remove programs and received the message "not all components could be removed, you must delete them manually" (or words to that effect.

I still have a boatload of BGII files. Don't want to remove ANYTHING that will screw my computer (again).

By the way, thanks for replying...

ok then you should be fine by deleting the c:\program files\blackisle folder. you may want to save the portraits though thats up to you. the part about "not all components could be removed, you must delete them manually" (or words to that effect. is windows way of telling you that the uninstall purposfully left something behind. IE: the saved game files. and tells you to remove manually. if you uninstalled then you are safe to remove those files.

Thanks for the advice/help, Slackerboy & Chai. I'll give it a go. If you don't hear from me in a week, it means I've really screwed this up and have to pay someone to fix it.
