fastest way to get edwin. answers may contain spoilers

Shame on me. I have never acutally finished the game. i havent even finished chapter 2. i keep on starting over and trying some thing different. what i want to know is when (and how) is the earliest you can get edwin.

Slackerboy, there's no shame in restarting the game, believe me, there's a lot to try out!!!!

As soon as you are in chapter 2 (after speaking to Gaelen) just head straight over to the thieves guild to speak to Renal. I've managed to finish all his quests and pick up Edwin while still in my first day in Athkatla. It can be done, you don't need any particular special equipment, and none of the quests require a high level party.

Hmm..

1. Escape Irenicus's dungeon and Run like mad for the Docks.
2. Go see Renal Bloodscalp and do his quests.
3. Meet Edwin during those quests as you try to get on Ma'vaer's good side
4. Let Edwin join as you prepare to kill Ma'vaer

the hardest thing to do in this quest (due to the weak party on beginning) is to kill the Cowled Wizard... just buy some breach scrolls and let the fighters do their job

lol I only play with a thief(my character) and Minsc ,so I gave bow and arrows to Minsc and ran up and down the stairs until the mages spells ended hehe,than I just came to him and beat him up.It's a cheap way,but when you have no mages in your group,there's not a lot of choices left.

The way I deal with the Cowled Wizard is to have 1 char walk up the stairs, initiate dialogue, wait for him to start casting then run down the stairs. If he's mid-cast he won't run after you. You can then sleep, go back up & hack him to bits no probs!

I pop him by casting Invisibility 10'radius on the party and surrounding him. Simultaneous bopping. Stoneskins soon go down. If he cast something with shortre duration ,run down the stairs, wait for the duration to expire, become invisible and go back up again.
