Hey everyone, bout this time yesterday, i was taking my AP english test. Let me give you the layout:

4 passages, with 54 questions to answer in 1 hour, and usually the passages are insanley hard

3 free response essays, about 40 minutes for each one. These were the topics on the free response:
Identify the rhetorical strategies of President Lincolns 2nd innagural address(i did sucky on that)

Describe the language used in a passage out of somebody's memoirs. The thing abou that one is the language was straight forward and extremely boring, not much to write about! I did ok on that one...made up some stuff...

Support, qualify, or rebuke the following authors comments: A big pasasge, essentialy it was your private life should be seperate from your public life. I think i did really good on that one

So, there you have it, a world of sucky tests. A friend pointed out that if you pass the AP test, when u go to college, you'll start in a harder class...sigh

Good luck to anyone whos planning on taking AP classes!

Ahem, you don't have to take the AP tests if you don't want to take em. I decided to pass on that, and I am also in AP english. Taking the test is supposed to be worth it. the fee is way cheper than what you would end up paying for your freshman college class. Just like you said though you said though, when you clep out (however you spell that) of a beggining class you're thrown into another harder class. Not all colleges allow that either.

Sorry to show my ignorance here, but what is "AP"? To me, "AP" means "Associated Press"; the news wire agency. I assume it has something to do with an Honors program, but that's as far as I can tell.

Thanks,
-Saz

I think like AP algebra is like HARD algebra or something like that, think of it as AP=HARD, PRE=EASY

AP stands for Advanced Placement. AP classes are worth college credits. If LadyBlue passed her AP English exam(and I hope you did!), then she doesn't have to take English her first year of college.

I share your pain whole-heartedly, LadyBlue. May 16, I have to take possibly the hardest AP exam, AP Chemistry! *cries*

Wish me luck.

Oh, and next year, I'm taking AP Calculus and AP Physics. Please, someone admit me to an insane asylum, because to sign up for those, I must be a madman. Heh.

Sorry to hear it was so unpleasant, LadyBlue.

It's not exactly true, however, that placing out of particular freshman college courses simply leads to taking a more difficult class. Placing out of certain courses can also allow students a greater degree of freedom in choosing classes than they otherwise would have.

Sometimes the first year cycle of university classes can be rather restrictive. Being able to place out of a class or two allows students the opportunity to be a bit more creative and flexible in putting together a program of study. That kind of freedom can really make a positive difference in a person's time at college.

Ah, I see now! Thanks, Krishach. LadyBlue, I hope you do well! You must be very smart in order to even qualify for that. Back when I was in high school, it was called "Honors" program. I had to sit for the PSAT/NMSQT back then (National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test). That wasn't half difficult, I'll tell you! I understand what you're going through.

As Cyril says, getting those silly "core" courses out of the way can give you a great deal more leeway in planning your college curriculum. Using CLEP exams can help, but getting as much out of the way as you can while still in high school is the best way to go. Best of luck to you!

Actually Sazerac, Honors is a differently class. For example, there's English IV, English IV Honors, and AP English IV Lit. & Comp.
