Southern Hemisphere doesn`t go by the soltices.
1st day of Summer = 1st September
1st Day of Autumn = 1st March
1st Day of Winter = 1st June
1st Day of Spring = 1st September.

I`m not liking this year... we`re right in the middle of a *huge* drought... where I am (About 4 hours from Sydney, 40 minutes from Bathurst), we got a good 10 hours of rain over about 3 days, but it *still* wasn`t enough to do much.
What we need is for it to rain heavily across the country for a couple of days without fail. Then we might start to get out of this drought...

Believe me, you may wish for winter, but all it does is restricts you doing the great things you do at summer. Snow is nice at times, and I like to do wintersports too, but... BUT it´s not fun to grab and grab your cars windscreen every morning so that you can see where your going, not fun when your car goes on a dangerous slide, when the snow blocks everything or when you need to walk a long distances and it's cold & winding.
Last year the temperature went down to -37C in here, which is probably about -55F. I swear, should you go out you will turn from flesh to ice very quickly..

But when it´s christmas there just HAS to be snow.. and there is now, so I´m gonna dance!

Well Lennon, your other ones were all correct, but I think in this one you meant December
Pah, bloody Aussies have to do everything backwards all the time! When will you learn? And yeah I think it's December for summer, unless spring and summer are one season and yesterday was september

Aussies are just renegade englishmen anyway (that could explain a lot!!), no culture or identity of their own!

Hey Leonis! I guess you have to have some trade-off for walking around upside down all the time

I always get a chuckle out of Christmas Cards from your neck of the woods... a friend sent me some with Surfing Santas that just crack me up! Cuz of course if he surfed here where *I* live, he'd freeze certain parts of his anatomy right off! LOL Then again, I suppose he'd be just fine in California or Mexico!

Glad you had a terrific start to summer! I hope my winter is a quiet one!

Thanks for replying there Lennon. Man you guys must be doing it tough out there. I've got some farmer friends from Wagga who are looking like going out of business for good.
I can't believe we don't have mandatory water restrictions in Sydney yet...we got some light rain too but nowhere near enough.
It's a two edged sword isn't it? I love the heat and sun, just wish it would rain many nights to end the drought...

To the 'northerners', enjoy winter! I had a white christmas in UK one year - it was such a surreal, magical time (but yes I can see how that brown sludge on the ground could get deppressing after a while)

What I still find hilarious is the tradition of eating winter christmas fare on one of the hottttest days of the year (for some reason, christmas day often seems to fire up)
