Why didn't they include the nifty class kits in BG2? It could really make the game more interesting. I was really disappointed by that.
On the other hand, all the orders of monks, paladins and clerics are nice and very.... COOL! As was the interface.

Question Mark

My guess is that it is just one of the radical changes from 2nd edition to 3rd edition.

The thing is, in 3rd Ed. they don't use kits as such - instead they allow you to tailor your character to exactly what you want. A kit is basically just a template of collected skills, abilities and feats which create a specific character stereotype.

For example, if you chose ranger as a class, chose Point Blank Shot and Rapid Shot, and Weapon Focus: Longbow you'd have a starting point for an archer. The only things missing are the kit special abilities and I'm guessing this is what you're missing.

Well.... your right Memnoch. Class kits kinda make you unique at some point.

By the way, I thought BG2:SoA is in 3rdE D&D Rules?

3rd editions 2nd biggest claim to fame was changing non-weapon proficiency feats like 'blindfight' into so called 'feats', and then fugging up the races so their all the same.

Also, anybody can tell that an archer would pound a ranger that has rapid fire etc etc. The extra damage was great, but it cut into your melee abilities. This could not be taken over into feats, and this is why kits are cool. I like prestige classes though, but they would work well with kits (not of them ,but of the standard classes)

I found an Icewind Dale II site that told you how to best recreate the kits from IWD. I was using the forumthere while waiting for Ironworks to approve me. However... I deleted it from my favourites after the approval came through. If I find it again I will post it.
