I've picked up a load of gems through the game and most sell for about 10-18gp. But, I'm starting to get gems that talk about being magical and sell for 1000-2000gp ... what's the score ? are these gems really magical ? if so, how do i use them ?

Sell, sell.
It says they can be used in the creation of magic, but other than gems with NO VALUE they can't be used for anything other than lining your locket with gold. ------------------ FAIR DINKUM! |

Sell ! Besides, if you need them later, you will be able to buy or steal them back again.

If you want to do all quests: the only three gems that have any use except for selling are these:
1 Diamond 1 Beljuril gem 1 Rogue Stone If you keep one of each in a gem bag, you will be able to use them, the first two gems to upgrade a certain item twice and the last one to be able to do a little quest that you otherwise won't get (not gonna spoil ya! If you want to know specifics, just ask) ------------------ Melusine Your voice is ambrosia |

Melusine, you can't store the Beljuril in a gem bag last I checked.

You should be able to. I had two or three of them in mine. Are you sure the bags not full up?

I wouldn't recommend putting special items in gem bags - it is one of the few bugs I have noticed so far in the game, once I put a ring +2 in a gem bag and it changed into a ordinary gem ...

?? I tried that with the ring, but it just wouldn't let me ut the ring in. Do you have the patched version of BG2? As for the Beijuril, I have kept it hapily in the gem bag before. It's safer than a character because, when a character leaves a party, their Scrollcases/Gem Bags/Bag of Holding go into other character's inventories, unlike the rest of their items
