My room-mate is reading a book called "The dreamthief's daughter" by Michael Moorcock, which looks very interesting..
Has anyone read it, or any other works from the writer?

Holy smokes, Micheal Moorcock and his works. Where should I begin. The Dream Thiefs Daughter is the lastest and most recent installment of the Eternal Champion Saga.

He has written so many books in his career.

His most popular character is Elric of Melbourne. Elric is just one incarnation of the Eternal Champion. White Wolf Publishing has been re-releasing all of his novels in this series for the past few years.

The Eternal Champion saga is based on Good vs. Evil, and all of the moral dilemas associated with this concept. The first time you read these boks, you read them for enjoyment. The second or third time you read them, it is for the thought provoking theme that is prevalent thru out all 18 omnibus books of the series.

Characters you may reconize from the series....

Elric, Count Brass, Hawkmoon, Jerry Cornealius, Prince of Demons (can't for the life of me remember his name), Von Bek, Dancers at the End of Time, Ulrek, just to name a few.

If you really enjoy engrossing stories, I recommend that you pick up his books and read them. All are set in a place called the Multiverse, on many different worlds. You have to read his works truely understand the fondness I have for Micheal Moorcock...

Okay, so "The dreamthief's daughter" is a part of a series?
So, which Moorcock book should I begin reading then?
Preferably the first one, of course
But which one is that?

The Eternal Champion.

But it does not really matter which one you start with, for there is not chronological order to any of the books in the anthology. They are not you typical series whereas you read volume 1 to volume 2.

Jump in and enjoy.

I'd agree with Foamfollower in general terms, but some of the Eternal Champion series are much easier to get into than others...the Jerry Cornelius series, for instance is what Moorcock called 'Speculative Fiction', and can be a bit tricky to get to grips with.

I'd recommend either the Hawkmoon series, starting with 'The Jewel in the Skull', or the Corum series, beginning with 'The Knight of the Swords', they both introduce the concept of Moorcock's multiverse and several of the recurring characters, like the Eternal Champion and the Companion...Jhary a-Conel and Whiskers have to be two of the most engaging characters in modern fantasy for my money.
