I need some help from you computer geniuses out there. Well I had to frag my C: drive due to a virus, and now my modem refuses to work. I've reinstalled the modem, and fixed the dial up info, but every time I try to dial up the cpu freezes. Does anyone know what's wrong with it? It sure would be nice If I could get online at my own house...

Did you remove the old modem drivers and software? Sometimes installing "over" the old software and drivers doesn't work, and you have to remove them first.

Make sure you only have one modem installed on your computer, too!

Having more than one modem hooked up on the comp shouldn't really matter. I have 2 different 56k brands instaled in mine along with my cable modem.
What I would suggest though as Ronn_Bman said, is to get rid of the modem altogther. Remove it all and re-instal it again.

Go to control panel. Go to device manager and remove all modem drivers. Back to control panel. Go to Add Hardware. Select Modem for device type and allow windows to detect your modem. Back to control panel. Go to Modems. You can test your modem and driver here. It should go through a communication sequence with the modem and have no errors. If the computer can communicate with the modem without problems, then the problem may be in your dial up networking session settings. If the session has the wrong comm. port assigned, it can hang up the system when it's trying to locate the device.
