Yeah, just play it in the background, and set the music volume slider in BGII to nil. You can also get rid of some of the ambient sounds if you want.

Maybe try it again but run BG2 in windowed mode...

i can run i tunes (pc version) while i play BG 2, i dont know wht winamp would be any different

Funny, works for me. Is there maybe an option enabled that makes it so if it's background, there's no sound from it? Maybe on the card?

It doesn't even work in windowed mode.
I'm running windows 2000, winamp 5.1.

Might it be a soundcard/hardware issue? Is the comp able to proccess the two at the same time?

yes. when I play game, the winamp sound is turned off...sometimes when the game loads I hear a little winamp music but it turns off when the game starts.

This has nothing to do with any software player. It´s nearly always a sound hardware / driver issue. Playing BG while having a player running is like having two software players running at the same time. For the hardware / driver combo it doesn´t matter if one is a player and the other a game or anything else.
Most consumer sound hardware / driver combination isn´t able to manage different sources (programs) at the same time. If you´re lucky one wins and gets exclusive use of the device - if you´re *not so lucky* sort of a race condition can develop (the other extreme) and the whole system locks up.
