Hello Board!
You all seem very friendly so I decided to join you. Got BG2 on Tues and am totally addicted but have 1 question (so far). What is the best attack strategy for wights and the undead. I'm having probs in the graveyard district underground. Thanks. willow ------------------ Regret nothing. |

Welcome there & greetings Willow2.
Undead are monsters that we all love. They come in several flavours - Spectral(ghostly ones), Cadaveric(like zombies), Skeletal, and Vampiric. Then there are special ones like Liches. They have specific weaknesses. Many can be Turned by a Cleric or a Paladin. Often they have immunity to cold, but can be hurt by fire. Lower level ones are very susceptible to backstabbing. Poison is a waste of time, since well, they're already dead. Traps seem to work pretty good. So does Insect Swarm spell, and Fire Elementals do them a lot of damage. One of the worst things that they can do is drain levels. You can protect against this with the "Negative Plane Protection" spell. And if it happens, a Restoration spell will set things right - the Cleric can do it, or you might have to hit a temple. Before you engage them, you might want to cast a Protection from Evil 10' radius spell, a Chant and maybe a Defensive Harmony. If they are draining your levels, try to engage them with your fastest people, and keep running while the missile and spell slingers pelt them. Melee is not always the best thing to do. |

Hello!
I remember BG1's manual in which Elminster said that the undead are the most fearsome! If you played Icewind Dale then slaying undead will be 2nd Nature, but even then there are still some very powerful undead before you. Most medium and low level undead can be harmed by magic easily. Use firball and skull traps to deal massive area damage. But the better ones are False Dawn and SunRay which are high level priest spells not yet perhaps available to you. Vampires: Fast Movement and Drains Levels, some can cast spells and are immune to normal weapons. You MUST cast lvl4 Priest spell Protection from Negative Plane to make yourself immune to level drain. But this lasts only 5 rounds (30 seconds in real time). Use all spells on them and summoning often helps. Skeletons: EASY Skeleton Warriors: magic will NOT hurt them in anyway. Meless is the only answer. They are tough! Mage with stoneskin can distract them whilst fighters hit them for free. Wrights: Combine Magic and Arrows Ghouls: They can hold and cause problems. Use arrows and ranged to reduce them then finish QUICKLY with a melee. Hit and Run works well as they are slow. Lich: Avoid these at levels lower than 9. You need a good mage to destroy its defences so your fighters can keep a continuous barrage of attacks on it. Read the battle dialogues carefully! You must known all the spells and how they work. Breach (lvl5 Mage) is needed more than once. |
