Is there any way to get the dog back to the boy who is looking for him. He always attacks my party and you cannot get him with the chew toy. Am I missing something?

Ruffie, doesn't attack you if you have the chew toy. He should just follow you unless you made him angry. If he his angry I am not sure he will follow you to the boy. Try using Charm animal or something to see if that works. I am not sure what would happen if you killed ruffie and then talked to the boy. I have always talked to the boy before meeting Ruffie so maybe you met Ruffie first.

Ruffie will still follow you if hostile, just stay ahead of him. This is a very interesting side quest.

I'd have to find Ruffie before I could give the thing the ache and try to charm it. I've spent ages with that wet, slimy chew toy in my pocket looking for the bl**dy dog. Ever since I've never bothered with that quest. Anyway, if I find his dog for him in that bleak and dangerous wilderness he won't have learnt anything; thus, he may not pay attention still, and let his dog wander off again. I like to think of this as a lazy, but public service!

There's a bit more to it than that, Lord Brass

You meet the boy in the NorthWest region of the map. If you will head almost directly due East (to the right) from there, you should run into Rufie about halfway back to the other side (North Central section). There is a section where you come to the top of a small bluff. Walk up till you can go around the end of the bluff.

Ruffie should be right there.

As has been mentioned.....this quest has an "interesting" ending.
