So... Skydiving. Has anyone here done it?

Two friends and I plan on giving it a try next month. We're not entirely sure why... Call it a whim. But yeah, has anyone here done it? Thoguhts? And about how much did it cost?

I've never gone so far as to jump out of a perfectly good airplane, but I have been to a skydiving simulator -- basically a vertical 125mph wind tunnel. That was a lot of fun, but getting the control to do aerial maneuvers or even just ride the wind without tumbling out of control takes a lot of practice. While I was at the wind tunnel (Sky Venture in Orlando) they said a lot of skydivers use that for practice because it's a lot cheaper than a jump (you don't have to rent a plane) and it's exactly the same, you're floating on air, except you're indoors. Maybe there's one near you?

i'm only 14 but when i am allowed to jump out of a plane, O HELL YEAH. Something comforting for you is that if your parachute gets stuck and you plummet to the ground at least it will be quick and painless. Got life insurance?
Do you hate me now

Don't be to sure about that. Some have survived, although they probably wish they hadn't.

Jumping out of a perfectly good plane doesn't make much sense.

One of the greatest and most funnest events one can have by themselves.
The hardest part is acquiring the nerve to jump out of a perfectly good airplane while in flight. I have never jumped with a square rig, or skydiver chute, only Army issue T-10s.

Cost? I have heard during the week in off season as low as $200. And peak season on a weekend closing on $500. That's tandem mind you, with an instructor.

The experince and thrill are priceless!

Happy flying, good jump, and full canopy to you.

I wonder just how big an impression someone would make when they hit the ground?

I can say with confidence that when I hit the ground I'll hit it running and have my hair in perfect condition. It'll make quite the impression, believe you me.

Pop 'n Fresh, I don't believe I should answer that question.

Two hundered is about what I expected, unfortunately, but nerve I have in abundance... Thanks, Felix. For what it's worth, thinking about it sort of scares me. I think that implies that it's something I'm seriously considering (rather than, "Oh, what if I went skydiving? Ha ha! Okay, let's go to the bar).

A wind tunnel, eh? I don't know... I think I actually want to be that high off the ground. It's part of the experience I'm looking for.

I've been twice, both times in the summer of 98. It cost about 150 in the midwest (Iowa), so 200+ would be about right.

The adreneline rush is worth every penny.

You can jump from an aeroplane at a great height without a parachute and it won't hurt you....it's the sudden stop at the other end where the problems start.

Think about it. With the wind tunnel I got 2 turns for $25, but I think it's up to about $40 now. Each turn was the same length of time you'd get from jumping at (IIRC) 10000 feet. And when I stepped out of the tunnel, I was grinning so hard my face hurt.
