Okay, i've set up a new internet connection using my administrator account, it works but it wouldn't let me access internet through the guest account! The icon is there, but it just wouldn't let me connect to the internet. I've tried to set up another new connection using the guest account, but Win XP say that the action is retricted since this is a limited account. Is this a bug? Please help. I'm using a dial-up connection to get access to the internet. Thank you!

Se up another login, and set the priviledges on it such that it is allowed to logon to and use the Internet.
You can`t logon to the net on a Guest account, because that privaledge is disabled.

He's right....that is a protection device, not a bug.

No this is no bug, as Larry has already said, it is a secutity feature. And no, it shouldn't be considdered a hassle or annoyance.

The PC which has it's roots in single user, disconnected desktop applications has long ignored good security practices. PC users are used to accessing all functionality of their computers without any restrictions. This was fine years ago, it is not today. Part of the reason you see all of these "hacks" and worm problems is people run their computers with admin privleges. Worried about a virus or trojan being installed on your system with out you knowing? Easy fix. Set up a user account that doesn't have install privs. Use that account for daily use. When you need more access to your machine, run as Admin, but only for as long as you need. Most of your daily routine on a computer does not need full access to the machine.

Think of the Guest account litteraly as a stranger to your home. You don't give them the keys and let them wander your house unescorted. The Guest account is the same. It has very little access to the resources of your computer. Your kids or best friend or in-laws you trust more (welllll maybe not the in-laws ...) so you allow them more freedom in your home. Creating user accounts is the same idea. Only, in your computer, you shouldn't always trust yourself . I mean that too, even though you know what you are doing, there may be some rouge app running in the background wreaking havoc on your computer and others if you run as Admin. If you run with less privs you protect yourself and everyone.

So, what- having a good security set up is a bad thing ??
Protecting your important files from hacking is a bad thing ??
Saving yourself alot of hassle if a Trojan gets in is a bad thing ??

Not last time I checked.

I know I’m not the first to have this opinion but I think Microsoft is evil and all of its products should be gathered into one area and a nuclear bomb dropped onto the lot of them. Bill Gates should also be ritualistically sacrificed to some strange pagan god and never mentioned again. But seeing as though that isn’t going to happen I will simply continue to complain about how stupid Windows is and ramble on about how Microsoft deliberately puts bugs into their things just to force people to endlessly download “upgrades” that fix one problem but replace it with an even more discrete one.
*Deep breath*
Er... I'll go now...

Er... I'll go now...
Patches are part and parcel of any software package now.
Windows Updates do NOT put more bugs into your Windows installation, nor do the generally take out existing bugs- because the only bugs that Windows HAS are infact so discreet that you won`t notice them, because they more often than not won`t affect you at all.
Windows updates don`t make it harder to use your computer, but rather make it harder for a hacker/trojan/virus to get in.

You want something buggy ?? You`ve played BG2 haven`t you ??

But BG2 is such an addictive game that you almost mechanically restart the game when it crashes without a single though of violence. Strange that any other game would have me screaming and hitting the monitor with the keyboard and BG2 doesn’t make me angry at all!
