Default Using Ipod on WinXP ?

I just got an Ipod for a present. Problem is that when I hook it up with my computer (with winxp) nothing pops up.

I read the manual, it says;

1. Connect to USB port on computer to set up and begin charging.

~ I did that and the ipod is currently charging. Ok, no problem with that.

Here's the problem.

2. Follow the setup assistant (may take a few minutes to start when ipod nano is charging)

~ Err....What setup assistant? I don't see anything pops up.

3. Transfer content while battery charges.

~ Err...I press the buttons on the ipod but nothing happens.

So, Anybody got any idea how to make this thing works?

Bung is right, without iTunes installed, nothing will happen, except it may show up as a memory card...

Here in Australia, no iPod's come with an iTunes disc, it has to be downloaded, and I assume it's the same over there

Yeah, I've to download the iTunes first before I can use it.

Thanks.

Edit : Oh question, if while traveling and I need to recharge it, I can just plug it in into any computer that have usb port right?

I think so I've got a separate connector for mine... plugs into my Kensington multi-purpose portable power supply.

Yeah you can plug it into any computer with a usb port. But remember that some Usb ports will not work (especially the ones in the front, because they lack power), usually your best bet is to go for the Two/sometimes 4 usb slots in the back of a computer.

I'm pretty sure you can charge it on a mac as well, just don't format it to mac. lol

cheers

If your using a computer from 1999 maybe..... Any USB2.0 should work fine, USB is USB the power couldn't change otherwise it would not work.

That said however, if you have a USB hub that already has other devices on it, it will be less likely to work.

The back ones have always worked for me...Soooooooo Yep!

Yep, you can charge it on a mac as well, just note that if you have iTunes installed on the mac it will ask if you want to reformat - so that is a big NO, as per Spirits Reborn's comment. If you don't have iTunes installed it will simply charge it without asking about the reformatting and you can relax
