where is it? I'm talking about the whole you have to fill for the dark dwarf mayor before he'll give you the glow stone you need to see the dragon and ultimately get into the drow city. I thought I had searched the entire map, plus the maind flayer and beholder ones, but obviously I haven't since it's mia. can someone give me a hint as to where to look??? please?

Firstly, the mayor is not a Duergar (or dark dwarf), but a Svirfneblin (or Deep Gnome).

Secondly the hole is a bit north of the Svirfneblin settlement up the mine shaft.

CHEESE:
Do the old trick of place traps all over the pit, click the button to bring him out, and have your character run out and shut the door (IIRC, there was a door). Then wait for the traps to go off and then send your fighter in to take him down.

The way I did it:
I used resist fear on Minsc and my main character (IIRC,Aerie has the spell). I sent them in and had them pound the demon while the rest of my party was moved away from the fight. I occasionally brought in another fighter (I used Jaheria for this) to come fight him if one of my players were either badly hurt or couldn't fight (doesn't the demon have the ability to knock your characters unconsious? I really don't remember his/her abilities too well). I would also occasionally take Jaheria/Aerie to heal Minsch and my character so they could do some demon butt kicking for goodness!

I wanted to say that there is no such thing as dark dwarf, that Duergars are grey dwarves, but Indemaijinj probably knows more than me on that matter.
So are they the same, Indy?

Duergars are indeed Grey Dwarves (their very common name, based on the color of their skin), but can also understandably be called dark, due to the fact that they are almost universally of Evil alignment.

spydar, the "hole" that you're looking for is in the eastern end of the Svirfneblin settlement. Go up a corridor and talk to the Svirfneblin guarding a door, that he wouldn't let you through before. Enter and do your stuff. Hope you've got a +3 weapon.....

You are right Vedran. I personally never call then anything else but Duergar.

The main difference between Duergar and other dwarwes seems to be their predominant evil alignment. Otherwise they are as dwarfish as dwarwes come.

Svirfneblin are not evil, however. In peace they are respectful and polite, if a little reserved citizens. In combat they value the survival of themselves and their friends an allies over honour any day. Their fighter/thieves should be legendary.
