Did we even know the issues?

We're going to see Bush's Clear Skies program come back very soon (as in -- tomorrow's headlines), so I thought this was enlightening. Too bad I didn't see it prior to the election, but still interesting to point out:

A new poll of likely voters found Tennesseans overwhelmingly support the new source review (NSR) power plant pollution policy favored by Democratic candidate John Kerry, but less than half know Kerry is advocating that approach -- and 15% wrongly attributed the policy to President Bush, who has made the program more flexible for utilities.

One political analyst says voters' confusion over NSR reflects the fact that environmental issues are not top-tier issues in this presidential campaign. The confusion also may stem from the fact that "the campaigns, while both trying to draw the lines, may not be doing a great job," the analyst adds.

According to the poll, which asked participants for their views on NSR along with four other key domestic issues, 80% of Kerry backers and 71% of Bush backers say they favor Kerry's position on NSR. But only 39% correctly pegged Kerry as an advocate for that position, while 15% incorrectly attributed it to Bush and 45% did not know.

Kerry has harshly criticized Bush's controversial changes to NSR, which narrow the criteria for power plants to install new pollution control equipment when upgrading their facilities.

This is a poll of American voters on 'why did you vote bush?'. Almost to a man, it's either to do with religious faith and morality, not liking michael moore, or liking how Bush doesn't change his mind.

The 'issues' hardly get a mention...

Issues are ranked by order of importance in each person's mind and voting. What maybe of importance to person "A" maybe of low importance to person "B" even though they both agree on the issue. It is extremely arrogant(sp?) to think that because something is important to one Human should be as important to another Human. That is the entire basis on which some people condemn the otherside on damn near any issue, arrogance! The beauty of a free society is that each of us get to decide what we value, issuewise, and the amount of importance we apply to that value.

INCORRECT anylasis(sp?) those were the Issues important to the people that voted the way they did. What gives anybody the right to decide what issues should be important to another? Are not the people that believe Morality and religious faith should be of important, accused of being arrogant, by those that don't believe the same thing. How is it differant to do the same thing , but from the other side? Please explain how being on one side or the other gives a person the right to do something they condemn the others for?

I guess I might have the same feelings had Kerry won....or maybe not since the Congressional elections still went to the conservative side.

What ever made you think issues had anything to with an election? It's all about getting in the best sound/video byte and surrounding yourself with celebrities.

Well I really have to hand it to the Bush campaign when it comes to managing those issues.

- He runs a campaign where massive record deficits driving the dollar down are acceptable.

- He runs a campaign where he states how much better he is at fighting terror than the Commie Democrats yet the terrorists leader is still making television appearances 3 years later.

- He runs a campaign equating stem cell research to abortion and in effect would be letting the rest of the high tech world lap you on scientific research.

- He runs a campaign where you convince people that the opponent, who actually went to Vietnam, is perceived as more cowardly than the guy that didn't go at all.

- He runs a campaign shouting out to everyone how his opponent is a tax and spend Liberal so loudly that the people don't even notice that Bush himself is a cut taxes and spend MORE Conservative.

Attack, Attack, Attack.. and when the opponent is set to defend attack again. The issues did not matter.

Ah, but the issues were Religion and Terror, now weren't they?

We've got some blood thirst going on that we're trying to quench -- that's for sure. And both the citizens and the soldiers want to keep the soldiers in the field. No matter the cost. Remember, spending bad, military spending sacrosanct.

And, in order to be religious, you need to state you are against abortions. Period.

And conservatives keep marching along lockstep, despite the fact their leaders fail so often to live up to the very ideas they espouse. Rush popping pills, O'Reilley's adulterous phone sex, two generations of Bush alcohol abuse. And no one cares. But say you'd let a woman choose to make her own mistakes, and the fury of the almighty must be cast upon you.
