The no fly zone cutting Iraq's "legitimate" airspace, almost in thirds, has been bombed over and over again for many years now. We have been at war but not at the same time - if this makes any sense to anyone. Co-forces have never left the area since Kawait.

Some things are better left unsaid about the relationships forged from America's Federal Republic system wooing world marketazation. That's part of the referendum idea in the anti war, capitalization, and explotation of a world market protest this weekend. (If only I could explain myself better
I hope to God the hydrogen car in the Paris show today made some difference. There has been some great posts concerning these celled vehicles ready for the road. (The peak of oil is due in 2020 some critics say.)

No. What's your point? It doesn't give the US a carte blanche to bomb the heck out of any other country they don't like...

80% of the Sept 11 terrorists came from Saudi Arabia - it's them we should attack! And all of them stayed in London at some time! Let's nuke London - that way we'll get all of them!

The war against Iraq is being driven by fear. Saddam is no direct threat to the US. There is an indirect threat however, the US fear that Saddam could give a nuke to a terrorist group to deliver. That is their justification for war at this time.

Saddam was able to use his biological and chemical weapons against the Kurds and Iran because they were unable to hit back. I understand that during Desert Storm Saddam was told in no uncertain terms that if he used these weapons against coalition forces he would be nuked.

Maybe you're right Donut, maybe we should put our heads in the sand and pretend there's no threat. Maybe he never was a threat, maybe Chamberlain was a smart politician.

Douglas MacArthur said that there was a common description of all military disasters: "Too Late."

Which he was doing for years while the UN and the US/UK did nothing. Who sold Saddam the gas? I believe that he was a 'friend' of the US & UK at the time, were/are we at war with Eurasia, or Eastasia? (Orwell reference in case no-one gets it).

I always try to get a historical perspective on these situations. We only have to look back to the mid 20th century to see a similar situation. (Let's not talk economics, otherwise my post will be 100+ pages long.) Hitler was building up his army and was "liberating" what he felt was his territory. A violation of the Treaty of Versailles. (Over simplified, I know.) Britain and France and the U.S. were tired of war, and basically did diplomatic finger shaking at Hitler. British PM Chamberlain signs a peace accord with Hitler, announces peace in our lifetime, Hitler invades Poland shortly after and WW2 begins. Looking back at that, what can we learn about dealing with fanatical dictators? How many lives could have been saved if G.B., France, and the U.S. had acted sooner? Have we learned from history, or are we doomed to repeat it?

Epona, does it really mater that we sold him some weapons? We are at war with terrorism, and he is one of the main sponsors. A little thing called 9-11 changed our perspectives.

And another thing, i don't think he bought gas from anyone, he only bought the knowledge to produce it himself, and that came from the Russians and noone else.
