I think that that's the name of this game. A turn-based strategy where you start out leading a rebelling against the evil demon tyrant. In combat the map would be based on hexagons and you could capture cities to recruit new troops, ruins to get magical items/heroes/more troops and stuff.

In between battles you could use gold to buy new units or research new ones. Normal units could be equipped with magical items to increase their abilities. It was really cool, loved it, except for one damn battle that I always lost

So anyone else ever played this cool game?

I played that game. Didn't get all that far, but it was fun. Loved the music in it. I pulled it out a while back, but I couldn't get it to run on my new machine.

Fantasy General is the BEST Turn based game!!! I still play it. I loved playing as Knight Marshall Calis and Warlord Marcas. Marcas was awesome cuz your guys already started out with experiance, and Calis rocked cuz u got Marlic, the best flying hero in the game. Totally love that game, and the demon dude was called the Shadowlord.

As a chess player, I love turned based stratedgy from what I've played, though I'm fairly new at it. Games like FG. (which I found on an abandonware site) I found allied general for the playstaion for $2.00, That got me hooked for a while as well.
Damn some of those battles are tough!!!!
Chess player, eh? Perhaps you should go to www.synthetic-reality.com and download Arcadia, then I can attempt to beat you at chess I love the game though I usually get smacked around by everyone at it

Hey, Morda or whatever her name was, was actually a great person to play as. The beasts have the best melee attacks in the game, so very useful. Unit sketches rocked.
