it's in the room that you open by lighting those colored torches. it's in one of the two safes in that room.

It's in the south west portion of the map. You should see six black unlit torch-bowls arranged in two lines of three torches each. These must be lit in a certain order to open a door to the north west of the torches, where the mallet can be found.

Sorry, 'order' is probably the wrong word to use. That should read: You must use a certain colour of oil on each of them for the door to open.

To find the oil colours you need go to your map screen and look for the coloured blocks either side of the room with The Machine of Lum The Mad in it. The example below shows the 6 torches, 3 on the left and 3 on the right. The topmost colours belong in the burners nearest the door.

Red.........Blue
Red.........Purple
Purple......Red

Uh, ok, I'm stuck at the same part, with the same problem and I REALLY want to know how you know what colours the torches need to be 'cos I couldn't find any clues anywhere (and yes, I just killed pretty much everything and the apprentice bloke died before revealing anything usedfull )

Does my post above not help at all? The info you need should be in the sixth post down. The clue is on your map screen.

Have a look, and if you need more info give us another yell.
