Have any of you played any fantasy first-person shooter games? You know, like Witchaven, Witchaven II, Heretic, Hexen, Hexen II, Wheel of Time, or Rune?

I've tried the first five of the abovementioned titles. Really fun games -- particularly Hexen II with its gorgeous graphics. You can even customise the game so that your magical items will be more potent or longer-lasting, your hero will make all sorts of interesting comments in various situations, the text messages will have four-letter words in them , etc. Real fun. I love first person games! Out of the ones you suggested, I have finished Heretic, Hexen, Hexen II and Wheel of Time.

I also love Deus Ex, Undying, Half-Life, System Shock 2 and Thief. I really do need a story in my games, so games like Serious Sam and Quake III just don't so it for me. The more involving the better.

Have you had a go at AvP2, Aviendha? Three storylines in one game, a bit short I found but heaps of fun none the less.

That's the next game I'm going to buy. I really enjoyed the first one and love the movies, so I'm sure to love it!

I love the tension that it builds, and it's so dark. It's outright the spookiest game I've ever played and Multiplayer is awesome!

Halo, in a way is like a fantasy game, because it takes place on that magnificent ring world which was actually borrowed from a famous Author's Idea in his book: The Ring World If you click on my homepage link and go to the bottom theres some info on Halo and it has some inferences to the Marathon Storyline, The way I see it, in Marathon, Durandal predicted the universe would cease to exist in 539.4 years, but in his calculations he forgot the carry the 7 this, in turn, meant that the universe had a greater timeline, and that the marine, who you play as in marathon, who was upgraded to seargeant and then cheif seargent and finally at the end master cheif, IS the MJORNAR Marine in Halo, he just has a more revealing suit The lack of rippling facial muscles was pretty good actually No more bat-man style helmet for him well ok it wasn't that bad... anyway, The P'for race, being destroyed, and the JJARO, having moved their planets far far far away again gave rise to a newer, weaker alien race who were religeouse extremists and cultists, they, together, were known as the covanent, much like the one's in that famouse novel... very fantasy like IMO. Fantasy doesn't always have to take place in a pre-midevil world of elves and dwarves and dragons and castles and adventure and stuff you know, Phantasy Star Online proved that for me, it was just like playing with a D20 system excep the numbers had changed and made it a D200 system and the levels were much like dungeons, th emonsters distributed EXP fairly (though I didn't like needing 500 milllion exp to level up nearing the end with the largest amout i could gain at one time being 300 per kill >_<) and it takes aloit of commitment, also, chances of finding anything good are SO LOW that I'm amazed that I accomplished getting my hands on every weapon in the game (It took 7 mules mind you) the 8 player classes are perfectly ballanced though RAMARS are too ballanced they're Rangers but they're human, sounds like a good idea right? Well the other two rangers you can play as are Androids, and let me tell you something about androids, Rangers magic SUCKS to begin with, so Not having any and sacrificing the low-level spells for bizzarley HUGE ammounts of strenghte was the best idea IMO. THat's why I got a ranger android to level 200. Knights (knowns as Hunters) are Ok and all but honestly, they're too strong at the beggining and too weak nearing the end, Mages (known as forces) are really kept on their toes as they never really gain enough HP to fight the last boss, but their spells are SO helpfull and their casting points can go SO DARN HIGH it's scarry, My male force att level 182 has 28715 casting points and he's still not maxed out So its a niceley ballanced game, EXCEPT FOR WHEN PLAYERS FIGHT PLAYERS, ok her'es where it gets bad, If all of my stats as an android were equal tot he stats of a force the force would win the fight because he'd have MAGIC @_@ all i could do would shoot him with a gun and MAYBE kill him, unless he casts some spell on me to make me lose DEX : / so i don't recomend the battle system, but thats why the game is based specifically on TEAMWORK, and boy, george, do you ever have that! There seems to always be someone who knows something more than you and also doesnt know something which you do... its quite a fun experience... the game is kind of a FPS because all classes can use handguns and machine guns while rangers get shotguns, bazookas, and rifles, (plus a very special weapon which rains death down from the heavens but it's special, like i said) most people prefer playing it in 3rd person though because then you can see if something comes from behind you, me included, i only use First person view when I'm backed into a corner actually *cough* but the game plays like an MMORPG... just no turns on the battle system, its more like Zelda with alot of players

well in case you havent read the AVP Comic book, it starts off with a marine ship minding its own business going at sub light speed when suddenly a big golden space cruiser just ZIPS by it... they sort of stare at it as it shoots away and are like "what the hell was that?" "I dunnow what do you think it was?" "ah probably just a whole lotta' nothing" "yup" "yup"

Meanwhile on the Predator ship: There's a bar fight going on with a whole lot of predator cheering, geering, and sneering... The fighters, who hate eachothers ... guts? Are scentenced to Death by slow and painfull assimilation, a trapped and harnesed alien queen is forced to pump out eggs non-stop, each egg is closley monitored by the predators on board the vessel and then packaged into giant steel drum containers which are then dropped onto any planets surface that they just feel like killing that day without a whole lot of work... immediatley they find a planet with no sentient life,t he skulls arent worth collecting, so they dump the eggs there and the two-four bad predators too... so the naughty boys stand around and quickly learn their lesson as every native beast on the planet is immediatley killed by the spawns form the alien eggs, by the end the predators are fighting for their lives on top of a litteral MOUNTAIN of alien courpses! if the movie was like that, COOL! oh and by the way, the marines just happen to show up too, just in time to check out the place "whoah ya think this had anythin' to do with that thing that passed us in space?" "naw..." "naww..." "YAAAAWW!!!"

"oh mah god jamison sumthin's a stickin out of yer chest!"

"MOMMY!!"

"She aint here jamison grow up ya big baby"

"AAAUUUGH *dies*"

"well damn... that thing scurried off mighty YAAAH!!"

"AAAAH!!!"

"Man what did I put into those omlettes? AAAH!!!"

Well, if you want to say that, then I suppose you can say that absolutely any first-person shooter game is a fantasy first-person shooter game, since every FPS game deals with things that don't exist and are only imagined.

And, yes, Marathon 2: Durendal was a great game indeed. I especially like it where you need to shoot two switches from afar and then the whole shop starts getting flooded with lava and you need to beat a hasty retreat. Thought it was real clever.

And if you want to talk about absolutely any FPS games, I suppose my all-time favorite would have to be... UNREAL.
