It's been forever since I played BG2 (so long that I've pretty much forgotten most of the story), so I'm planning on taking another run through, starting with BG1. I figure I'll take Minsc, Dynaheir, Jah, Khalid, and Imoen because you start with Minsc, Jah, and Imoen in BG2. I'm tossed up between playing a paladin (that I'll kit into an undead hunter) or a mage (that I'll kit into a wild mage). I like the Undead Hunter because it reminds me of a prestige class character I had back in the PnP days (though my guy was not a paladin and CG), but I really don't like the idea of being LG. The wild mage I want for the wild surges, but I really don't think the BG1 party needs a mage, and there are some decent mages in BG2. I could do a run through with each, but I'm the type to play through a game once, put it away until I forget the story, and then go through it again.
So, I'm leaving it up to a vote. Paladin or mage. What say you?

As I found out on the BG2 board about a month ago, there is no way to kit a wild mage. It's a class. (Which was disappointing for me, because I was building a nice background for a BG1 mage turned wild in BG2, and what spells and NPCs she would pick, and so forth.) IIRC, all the other pure classes can kit. So, I'm leaving it up to a vote. Paladin or mage. What say you? You'd do fine as either, since you're getting a couple of tanks. You might have a difficult time getting past the first two maps with a mage. Those wolves love chunking 4 HP chars. (BG2 SPOILER!) . . . . . (It's a minor one, but just thought I'd mention it...) . . . . . In BG2, a PC mage character can cast find familiar. Also, you can twerk your stats with the tomes in BG1 that it's possible to get 20 intelligence if you play a gnome illusionist. Heck, even Edwin can't beat that score.

Wolves are not a problem. This is what the Sleep spell is for. Learn it, love it, like it. Also, Grease and a sling shot make short work of anything while you are a young mage, all alone.

The Wild Mage is a kit, you can transform into one if you import a Mage from BG1. |

I do the same as you StarVid. A run through, forget the story and another run through.
Currently playing as a mage/thief. I think it is a little disappointing to be honest. Weak spells and the casting time is too long. I hardly never cast any spells. I might cast some spells when the big baddies show up. |

I always play a Paladin as my main charactr and hve done just what you are suggesting a couple of times, great fun!.
Incidentally, the DSOTOSC add on gives a lot of new paladin items I am told.

Where can I get DSOTOSC and a list of the new items in it?
