I'm working on a solo MP Sorcerer build. I've taken the base from one of Marty4's post and tweaked to fit my own needs. I figure 24 Sorcerer levels will get me the spells I need while allowing me to mix in 6 levels of other classes. Since my character is going to be Drow, I'm thinking of mixing in Rogue, Ranger and Barbarian. This is what I've got so far:
Kreios Chaotic Evil Male Drow Rogue 2/Ranger 2/Barbarian 2/Sorcerer 24 STR 14 DEX 18 CON 14 INT 8 WIS 6 CHA 20 Dual swords, Bows & Maces However, I am considering dumping 2 STR into CON and taking Weapon Finesse. Other than the change in weight limit, is there anything else that would be effected negatively for doing this? Also, what kind of xp penalty am I looking to incur? I know xp penalty will be based upon the way I level up. So far, I'm thinking of leveling up like so: Rogue 1, Ranger 1, Sorcerer 4, Barbarain 2, Sorcerer 6, Ranger 2, Rogue 2, Sorcerer 24 I'll probably take the first 2 Sorcerer, squat the next two and then squat the 2 Barbarian levels. Anyway, that's kind of the plan I have for now. Thoughts and suggestions are welcomed. Thanks, Vassago

Well, if you go with getting equally the 4 classes to level 2, you should be without an xp penalty for the first 9 levels. After that, it's 20%. You could be about level 22 by the end of the game with that XP penalty and level adjustment.
As for the classes, I'd trade Barbarian for Paladin(4 hp and Rage are nothing compared to Spell Resistance and Immunity: Fear). Rogue's evasion can stay, but I think you can get away with only 1 level of Ranger. Weapon Finesse does no work with longswords and maces, and I suggest you dual a longsword and a mace, not to interchange. I think the game treats both as same size weapons.

BoB,
Thanks for the advice, but Paladin won't work with this build, he's chaotic evil. I had forgotten that WF only works with small blades, so I won't worry with that. Decided to drop a level of Ranger and pick up a level of Fighter. So updated character is this: Kreios Chaotic Evil Male Drow Rogue 2/Ranger 1/Barbarian 2/Fighter 1/Sorcerer 24 STR 14 DEX 18 CON 14 INT 8 WIS 6 CHA 20 Dual Swords/Maces & Bows I was considering drop a level of Ranger and Barbarian and picking up 2 Cleric Demarch of Mask levels, but I can't get the WIS up high enough to cast any first level spells (need 11). The only way I could think of to do it is to drop 2 STR, 1 CON and 2 CHA and add it to WIS to make it 11, but I think I can do without 3 level 1 Cleric spells. Level progression will stay the same except for subsituting a level of Fighter for 2nd level of Ranger. Rogue 1, Ranger 1, Sorcerer 4, Barbarain 2, Sorcerer 6, Fighter 1, Rogue 2, Sorcerer 24

Keep in mind that you will run into some experience penalties with all thos different classes (drow favored class is mage, not sorcerer). I would drop the strength into DEX and switch longswords for shortswords, but longswords are also fine. I would also dump 2 points of STR into CON.
Other than that, you have a very nicely multiclassed character. Why are you usin maces? Don't waste proficiency in them, use summons to hurt enemies like crystal golems. I was high enough by that point to summon up zombie lords, which could take the golems 1 on 1. Good luck! |

With 1 level of Fighter.... you can already use every weapon besides Bastard Sword with no penalties.
No feats spent, Marty. So it's only about inventory space.

I'm not concerned with the xp penalties because this is a solo character. As far as maces go, I wasn't going to waste a point on profiency with them. I always like to have one of each damage type equipped for emergenices. Obviously, this guy will be casting spells once past the prologue.

Well yeah, summoning works.
Of course, being protected by wizardly buff spells and thwacking them with a blunt object works too.
