I have caught the D2 bug (addict!), and I am playing with the add-on. I have a lvl 20 druid, in the Arcane sanctuary.
The expansion adds a heap of new options, which make it more worthwhile playing - ie. You get better rewards for the tough unique monsters you kill

How many play on the Realms, and how many play single player or open Battle.net?

I just play single player.
The realms are too slow for me, and I only have the one phoneline, so it makes being online for any length of time (except really late - like now) a bit difficult.

So its just single player for me. Suits me fine, though I wouldn't mind experiencing a party situation. (I never have at all)

I agree with the Realmnetworks sucking... I never stay connected worth a darn there. I play single player, or on open with a few guys i have met who are okay. Word of caution, since openbattle.net is not governed by Blizzard, you can find all kinds of people there and some mean ones.

I usually use open for trades though, and most seem to be pretty decent with it.
