Why the north people (I refered North european) calls us Latinos, when europe was romans in the past?... Well I understand that the Swedens and German call us latinos (because we speak a dialect of Latin), but why not call Italian or French their language is latino too. Or only in Iberic Peninsula the people talk in latin?
I think that is for the people from united state of america. They talk english (half latin, half galaic), and called Latinos to the people of South America. If they want called anything, call us Mediterranean. Iberician (Portugese and Spaniard), Italian or Greek are Mediterranean. Thank for read it |

Well, I personally call the people I call Latino's ...Latino because thats what they told me to call them...they are quite a distinct group from african American and WASP and Asian's. No insults are intended by myself that is for sure.

Race is distinct from but related to ethnicity. And, this causes some problems when trying to label each other. "Latino" is a perfect example of this: Dominicans are "latino" and their skin is black, Spainyards are "latino" but they are about as European as you can get. Similarly, such distinct cultures as Nicarauguan, Panamanian, Argentinian, Puerto Rican, Cuban, and Mexican are "latino."
Personally, in my considerable time in Miami, I have noticed a lot of prejudice in these groups as to other members of the "latino" family - perhaps based on the lumping of such diverse peoples into one group. As you said, "Latino" seems to be based on a language, but that language nowadays is Spanish, not any Latin-derived (often called "romance") language (which would include Italian and French). In short, Latino is a perfect example of why such labels suck eggs. I taught Boo to suck eggs once, by the way - but that's another story. |

Love Doctor: Ok so I'm really from up-state but I provide the REAL latin Love! Lazlo: ... You're a pimp from up state! Love Doctor: no no no! I am not a Pimp! I am a love-provider... Lazlo: What happened to your accent!?
