I've finished off IWD with a POWER team. The members are: 2 X cleric/fighter/dwarfs (killer comb! Really, really, really - its been almost too easy sometimes) 1 X human/paladin who can combine with the dwarfs in melee or can do ranged attacks with much success 1 X full out thief(/halfling to leverage race advantages) (very handy in scouting and similar situations and can help very effectively with ranged attacks) 1 X human/bard I decided on her after long consideration of Noble Nick's gospel and must say she's been a real boon, especially later in the game and in HoW and ToTL. 1 X human/specialist mage (here I chose specialist Evoker but I should have chosen Illusionist as Noble Nick advises). I had a ranger in one of my earlier parties but she wasn't missed when I left her out. Never had a druid. I'm moving to New Zealand soon (end of Feb), where are you writing from - maybe you can give me some tips as to what my choices are... kartetse --------------------- do da do, kick da goo and stay outta da zoo... |

Gidday,
thanks for the further replies. I have been playing a bit with a paladin, dwarf fighter, Elf fight/thief, Half-Elf Bard, Half-Elf Fighter/Cleric and Half-Elf conjurer. So I went with the multi-class rather than dual classing and it seems fine to me (levels 3-4 in the "vale"). NobleNick are you sure a conjurer can't learn evocation spells?? - my conjurer has learnt and is using magic missle and Agannazars scorcher. cheers Nutman |

In th original IWD the opposition school for conjurer was divination... which made conjurer the best specialist because divination spells are actually least useful (and those which are can be used by the bard)... In HoW the opposition schools changed and its now invocation for a conjurer... Note: if you install HoW after having some invocation spells memorized, those spells will not disappear, though you wont be able to memorize new ones (thats what the manual and/or readme.txt says at least... I havent checked it myself)

Hi ZFR, yes I am playing without HoW (hope to get it sometime soon) - would be good if I can keep using evocation spells that are already in my spellbook when I get HoW (are current saved games Ok when you install HoW?).

Whoa! Did I strike out or what? I don't recall when I last had so many errors in one post. Thanks for holding my toes to the fire, Yanez; I need a sanity check every once in a while. I have a half-elf bard; but it has been soooo long since I created one that I honestly don't remember the race requirements. Just knew that a Pally had to be human and that both a Pally and Bard need to be single-class.
Nutman, If you don't have HoW, then please disregard my previous post... all of it. Better, yet (much better), HoW get HoW. (Bards rock in IWD/HoW/TotLM, but not without HoW.) -------------------- What's a party, without a song? Bards ROCK! Party On!! |

Just a couple of points in passing.
Life is so unfair to the small people, Midget Gems were not allowed to have Paladins, Druids or Bards until we discovered IWD2, where equality for small people is the order of the day. It is so true that Bards and Druids get a big boost from HOW. In plain IWD they are just regular party members, but with HOW they really rock. I have just found to my disappointment that IWD2 (with patch) reduces the power of War Chant, so I guess the reign of the Bard was short-lived.

Midget Gems, Bards still Rock in IWD2. While the war chant is not as great and powerful has HoW, it is still good and I used it all the time during combat. Druids are not quite as powerful as HoW but they are still powerful and two of the hardest battles are made that much easier with them in your party. The best part is your little people can play them.
