I saw that NVidia released new drivers for me as of the 13th of August, and I have installed them. Yet, when I go into the command of dxdiag I see that the newest "Main" Drivers were installed 7/28, and are version 6014.0010.4523
The drivers I found available today say: Windows XP/2000 Version: 45.23 Release Date: August 13, 2003 WHQL Certified Now...what is the difference in the drivers I downloaded and where can I see that they are installed?

Don't you have to uninstall the old ones before you install the new ones?

Did you get them off of NVidia's website? If so, JC's advice probably holds. I got mine off WindowsUpdate, and I have had no problems.

No, somebody told me on here before...and they were one of those guys that knows PC stuff...that removing the old ones was not an issue. Yes, I did get them off of NVidia's website.
The Windows Update one is not the most up-to-date. Windows wants control over everything, and when somebody has something to release, that person has to get Micrsoft to certify it, by paying them money to put the Windows compliant logo on it, and if you don't then Windows promises to act like your stuff is not safe. I am sure a more PC saavy person would help me explain this better. Anyway, I think I have figured out what the problem is. It was not the main driver that I downloaded, it was the Detonator drivers...which is something else. Kinda like a new paint job on a car. It just makes the existing one better. Can somebody confirm this?

Always download your drivers from Nvidia's site as Windows Update is messed up. The new detonator drivers will install fine over your old ones, nothing needs to be uninstalled.

I took the one off of Windows Upgrade and it works OK as far as I can tell.

the whole 'uninstall your drivers' idea came from installing a new Graphics card. whenever you install a new graphics card, even of the same make, i advise to uninstall the old drivers and then install the new card then new drivers. for updating drivers you dont need to do this, which is definatly true for detonator as i use them, just install over the top.
i agree with the others, never ever let windows update try and update your drivers.
