I like RPG's as close to PnP AD&D as possible. Therefor I voted the BG series.
I vasted a lot of time playing DII, until I found out that I couldn't stop, eventhough it wasn't fun anymore. It was reduced to: Maybe I'll find that elite unique in the next Boss run, as if that would change anything even if I found it I prefer AD&D RPG's with a story line, other than "kill cows to get XP" and "kill Bosses to get good weapon (maybe)" and "when most Bosses and most cows are dead - repeat". I also like to have a party of (my own) NPC's where some members covers for the weaknesses of other members and vice versa (instead of a party with other players, where everyone is running for items instead of backing up for other party members (i.e. do not use ranged attacks - you are farther away from dropped items )). My faves aren't on there -- Might & Magic, Wizards & Warriors, Pen & Paper...
But I agree with InsaneBane -- slaughterhouse games aren't a lot of fun, and quests need to relate to the game somehow.

The best RPG is IMO Daggerfall, cause you have so much choice! You could do anything you want almost! Morrowind is a good second, but it lacks the random quest thingy...

It's not that D1 was so bad, you could play that one through a dozen times and still discover a new quest on your thirteenth trek. Take the Sean Connery wizard character and you'd have a real challenge on the later levels. But why did you have to say 'series'? D2 isn't even worth the title of 'game' Okay, so I did take one character all the way through the Hell difficulty and put quite a decent number of hours into it, but still. EDIT: It's too late now, but something tells me I shouldn't have mentioned playing D2. I feel suddenly vulnerable out here in the open. [ 08-21-2003, 10:36 AM: Message edited by: Legolas ] |

I voted for the Baldur's Gate series although the Final Fantasy series was a close second.
You should be able to vote for the Shenmue series too that's a good series. Who would have thought that a game were you have to get a job would be so much fun
