No can't say that I was. I never knew her eyes were removable.

Oh yes, I take them out every night.

My eye is feeling a bit better today, but I have to go help cut down a tree that's too close to someone's house. Here's to hoping I don't get splinters in my face or something.

Protective goggles, my dear. Make me look funny when I use 'em, but beats looking funny for weeks afterwards as I recuperate... assuming recuperation is possible, that is.

Glad your eye is feeling better, in any case. I'm still recovering from excessively dry eyes, and my contacts (which I normally wear for a week at a time) have turned into daily wear lenses...

Still, that beats not being *able* to wear them for a week, as happened before.

There was only a visor that the guy with the chainsaw was using, the rest of us had to make do with glasses or by looking away when bits of wood started flying around. I got a few bits of sawdust in my eyes, but nothing I couldn't blink out. Most of the tree came down, we dropped some of it into the farmer's field next door, almost hit his small apple trees (oops). The stump is still in the ground, it has roots going all over the garden. I don't know how we're going to shift that.

There are three ways to get rid of stumps.
  1. Use shovels, axes, and hours upon hours of manual backbreaking labor for the hopes of eventually getting it to move. Note that the time required increases geometrically with respect to the size of the stump.
  2. Apply option 1 for a while until you can get a strong rope around the stump. Attach said rope to a truck, tractor, or something similar and pull. Beware the rope should it snap.... it's rare, but people *have* been killed by it.
  3. Get a stump grinder and spend several hours grinding the stump into nothingness. The chances of dying here are much, much less...

Eeef... I'd go with option 3 if I were you and your friends, DS!

Hi all. I'm currently exiled to my study while hubby does some finish work on the painting in the living room. Wow... it's amazing what a coat of good paint (and primer) can do to walls and trim that had been painted in cheapo paint by what undoubtedly had to have been a drunk guy posing as a painter when they built my house. He was in a major hurry, too. The uneven paint and the drips on the doors made that obvious!

Looks so much better now! But then I'm in the study (avoiding an asthma attack triggered by paint fumes/allergy) and the cats are all locked up so they don't get into paint or underfoot and it's been a LONG day! Still, it's cheaper to do it yourself than hire someone.

Problem is... This stump and the roots cover about 50% of the garden. And it is a big garden. Plus there are other trees around the edges of said garden which are actually all connected to the same root system... We just took out the biggest one.
Yeah... Became very aware of the chances of dying when part of it went over yesterday. A branch snapped off and was driven about a foot into the ground. In the place where one of the other people had been standing about a minute earlier. And the ground wasn't exactly soft.

I'm all for option 4.

Option 4 it is... but three years won't be enough time for the bugs to do their work. Better make it three decades...

LOL, DS, you'll need a fair amount of pocket change to stay at the pub THAT long!
