Paralyzed Superman star Christopher Reeve claims innovative trials are already underway into therapeutic cloning that could help repair spinal injuries. Speaking at a forum in Sydney, 50-year-old Reeve confirmed a number of scientists are now testing the process on humans - which involves taking stem cells from embryos to repair injury or cure illness. However, he was quick to distinguish this from reproductive cloning, which would use the cells to create a human being. Reeve says, "In some cases, human trials are even under way as we speak, so the idea that this is a pipe dream that may or may not come to fruition is just not the case. Cloning that would reproduce a person should be banned and criminalized. People don't understand the difference. There's a fear factor that gets in the way." Reeve was thrown from his horse seven years ago, leaving him paralyzed from the neck down. He is set to guest star in an episode of Superman prequel series Smallville next month. ------------------------------------------------------------ This is especially good news to me, as my step-sister and her boyfriend were just in a bad accident last week. And he is now paralyzed from the chest down. I hope this pans out
