I used to play. I started in 1995 or so, with the 4th edition, and Ice age. I kept up with the new release up to Urza's Sage around 1998 I think.

I used to be one of the bestplayer in my area, I have been defeated 4-5 times max in all that time, but I never went to a trounament.

I sometimes miss the game, I've considered starting out, but I would only do it if I could afford to buy all the complete series up until now and then get a few more of the important cards.

Then good luck with waiting, because I don't have the feeling those collectable prices will ever go on the rise. I used to play back in '94/'95 (from Revised to Alliances, when I finally realized it was actually all one big rip-off anyways), have tons of cards from that period, but the prices listed in collectors' guides have hardly been on the rise since then. Wanted to sell them back in '99, picked up a price guide, ended up being severly disappointed and put the entire collection in a box under my bed, where it's still gathering dust now, I suppose.

i used to play from exodus till apocalypse. at that point i found the game getting boring, no outstanding artwork (IMO), same cards different names and playing became really expensive. right now some friends are playing again at school and at times i feel like getting the cards i have and just have fun playing some. i will not buy any new cards now and just use the thousands i have right now

i've been playing from '95 since just before fallen empires came out. i ended up wasting tons of time and money, but was happy. this time last year i sold about a quarter of my collection over e-bay (probably 10k cards) and more than made back all the money i'd spent years ago.
i buy a booster or two every now or then, when a new set has come out. i do pretty well with my group of buddies, but the two tournaments i have been in did not go so well- not only did i lose out fairly early on, but to kids much younger than me. i was pretty frustrated until i found out that they had bought their decks from some guys who ended up in the semi-finals at one and the winner of next one.
the main drawback to the game, is that at most levels, money beats skill every time.

So how did you sell them? One by one, or entire collections at the same time? And which collector guide did you use to base your prices on?

Stopped when fallen empires came out.

Didn't really collect for very long. I like the game itself a lot. Just not the pumping out new limited series for monetary gain part.

Never played tournaments, just friendly games with my friends.
