Whenver I open my IE browser, no matter what I set the homepage too it opens up about:blank, except it's a search page w/ anti spyware pop ups. I'v gone through my C drive and run ad-aware and Spybot S&D, the problem still isn't resolved. I use IE v 5.0, w/ 128 cipher bit(s).Any suggestions?

Yes...talk to Cerek. He had the same thing, and I think he finally got it fixed.
I gave him the links that would help him to remove the problem, but I do not have them anymore. They were found using Google searching.

You could try spysweeper as well. For me it seems like finding a lot of instances of one program killing them all.
The other thing I suggest is upgrading your IE to IE6SP1 cause 5 has some backdoors in it for really annoying spyware like WWWsearch. Or you could try another browser. I like mozilla or firebird since you can control your cookies, which gets a lot of spyware out of the way immediately, blocks all popups is even less spyware. Further you can play with java and javascript settings and I think it blocks all activeX programs that install this stuff on your computer. |

I have problems with about:blank as well, and it has caused me to just quit searching. Spybot and Adaware together don't get it -- though I haven't updated Spybot recently (anyone got a link for the new version??).
Spysweeper catches it changing my homepage -- which would be great, but it changes once every 5 or 10 minutes, even once I log off, which annoys the pee-water out of me. Help on this issue is GREATLY appreciated. |
