shield of the giant quest

on skull island i killed the giant and forgot to keep the shield.picked it up and i.d.'d it then dropped it there.went back to get it to satisfy the quest and its not there.now everytime i go to the armory the guy hassles me about the shield(no wonder he has big holes in his roof).then on the quest to give the guy his hook i accidentally killed him and am getting asked everytime i go in about it.is there a way to abort these quests?
i'm in sunken city now and the game freezes when i try to open a chest.i had to reinstall xp(pain in the butt)and thought there was a file i had to add to sys32(?)or something.

For the Shield or the Hook, if you can't find 'em, you might ask Wyvern or Xignal to hack you one. That can get you past that minor difficulty.

As for the crash, I don't have any good thoughts for you. Sorry. If you haven't yet, you might install the patch.

You might also look through Saz's techie thread (second of the sticky threads on the top). Never know what you can find in there.

There is no way to "abort" these quests and if you don't fulfill them, you cannot get the next quest from that guild.

Can you reload your game from a time before you found and dropped the shield. I'm sure Xignal and I could probably ferret out the code for the shield but I do not have it on hand. These days it is better to ask Xignal to do a hack as he has little difficulty emailing the large files involved whereas it can take me 2 to 4 hours to mail a zipped gamexx.sav back

As for your freeze problem - do read through Saz' thread and also tell us more about your computer. We know you're using XP but what version of DirectX are you running, how much memory do you have, are you running in 3d or software mode? The more you can tell us about your setup, the easier it will be for us to figure out how to solve it.
