Latest version of the Wiz8SpellAbility spreadsheet has been released! Version 2.01 is now available for download.
Go to http://wiz8.web1000.com for all the details. For those of you who unfortunately get re-directed, use http://wolfie.wiz8.de instead, which is a mirror of the site. As I do not visit many other Wizardry 8 message boards anymore, please cut and paste this message to as many other Wiz8 boards as you can, to inform Wiz8 fans everywhere. If you're not familar with the Wiz8SpellAbility spreadsheet, here's a brief introduction for you. Basically, it is made up of two types of spreadsheets. The first enables you to enter in your characters name, profession(s) and how many character levels in each profession, this along with how many skill points in each of the appliable Spell Mastery and Realm skills, and the spreadsheet will calculate for you what spells the character can learn, or how many skill points are required before a spell can be learnt, or why in fact the character cannot learn the spell. You fill in one spreadsheet per character in your party. The second links the information from all the character spreadsheets into three informatative tabs. These are: ** Required SpellBooks ** Useful for when visiting merchants or finding spellbooks, tells you which character is able to learn what spells. ** Available Spells ** Handy for when in an encounter with a band of monsters, this tab tells you which spellcaster is able to cast what spells (so when looking for who can cast the Insanity spell for example, this is the place to look). ** Future Spells ** Provides a listing of which character will be able to learn a spell in the future, great for determining when you find a spellbook, if it's worth keeping or selling. Here's what people have had to say about the Wiz8SpellAbility spreadsheet in the past: "I was playing with your spreadsheet a little more and I am TRULY impressed with what you have done! "I never expected a spreadsheet with so much detail! I was just expecting something like the data entry tab and having to click a button to refresh the spreadsheet whenever a change was made. "The other tabs are very nice touches. You obviously put a lot of thought and work into this. I especially like the availabilty tab and how you use strike thru, italic, and bold lettering on the spell names and how you tell how many more levels are needed in the each school of magic to learn a spell. I really like the spell realm and spell availability tables on the data sheet tab. The print out tab is extremely useful for viewing all current and potential spells available in an instant. I just can't say enough about how much I like what you've done." > blitz100 - VN Boards "Thanks for [the] info, it was nice tool and now it is even better" > Danicek - RPGDot "Thanks. That spreadsheet is a great tool." > DraconisRex - Ironworks [ 05-07-2004, 11:08 PM: Message edited by: Wolfie ] |

For the last week or so, the web service provider which hosts my Wiz8 web site has been having a few glitches. Visitors, including myself, to the site were being diverted to either an advertising site or the service providers own web page.
This has been rectified and the Wiz8 web site is now available again. Sorry, if this delay caused any undue discomfort. EDIT: Also, should have done this eariler, there is now a link for the Wiz8Fast utility which speeds monster movement during combat. Follow this link for the details. I am pleased to announce there is now an European mirror of my Wizardry 8 Info Site!!
So for anyone who's been thwarted by my current web service provider's (Web1000) policy of redirecting visitors to either a 'Pay for Surveys' site or their login page; now you can visit the european mirror to get the amazingly popular Wiz8SpellAbility spreadsheet (nearing 20,000 downloads since release) and all the other Wiz8 related info (like how spell learning works for profession-changed characters, and the retro dungeons to mention just two). Browse to http://wolfie.wiz8.de where you will find the complete mirror of the site. My thanks to Klarius for offering to use some of his web space and setting this up for me.
