I think it would be a great combo. Mages can't wear armor anyway.... go for it if you want to try fighter/mages...

The biggest problem with Kensai is that they can't even use bracers; you need to depend on spells to bring your AC down (shield, barkskin, spirit armor, etc.). And, they can't use missle weapons (but they can throw darts, and throwing axes and daggers). They are pitifully weak after they dual-class, due to the high AC and high Thac0, until they regain their Kensai abilities. But, once they do regain them, they are unstoppable. You'll be leaving the rest of your party in a safe area, while your Kensai/Mage sweeps the entire area alone.

But they CAN use mage robes when dualled. Finally managed to bring Kenny's AC under zero with Archmagi robes.

Mage/Kensi is a really good combo as well (although you have to use shadowkeeper to do it). Get your mage up to about level 16 then dual class him to a kensi using shaddow keeper. You'll need to remove the experince point cap though.

kensai mages are extremely powerful. only problem is to get ur kensai skills back. id dual when im lvl 12 b/c thats when u get another +1dmg +1thaco and another kai AND another proficiency. start memorizing scrolls like crazy after and u should have a mage bout lvl 5 or more depending or how many peeps in ur party. when the mage gets high lvl mage spells(wit a cap remover) he goes berserk. after stoneskin or improved mantle or wutever, hes quite unstoppable. try improved haste too. i think they're really good.
