Windose XP has bee working just great for me - no hassles since upgrading - running NWN, anti virus, 4 or 5 forum windows and MS Mail. Maybe the high Ram is a factor (512), but I have been impressed so far.

ME to XP that sounds almost like a joke. ME in my opinion is the worst operating system ever marketed. As for XP I can't understand what the deal with some people is, I have had no problems out of it. As a matter of fact I think it is by far the best OS. Yes it does have a lot of updates but they should be coming out with a service pack that take care of it all soon. As for game compatibility it can run anything, and I mean anything that 98 can run. Anyone who tells you otherwise doesn't know what they are talking about. There is an option under properties for compatibility mode you can run any EXE as if it were in 98 or 2000. Definatley upgrade just make sure that you get the corporate edition because home edition is crap.

If your computer is half way decent upgrade to XP. It is much much better in just about all aspects.

I highly recommend XP. I used to have heaps of problems with 98 and 2000, all of which went away after loading XP. As long as you have all the XP drivers for your video and sound cards, you should be sweet.

I've played lots of games on XP, but nothing older than about 1998, without any problems.

I hope this helps,
Avi.

At this stage, there is only one version of XP (Professional), and yes, it is good!

I had majot problems with XP. I installed it several times and finally gave up and went back to ME.

As long as you have drivers that support XP you wont have too much in the way of problems. If you try to use a driver for 98 or ME, XP will tell you that "an unsigned driver may make your system unstable."

And probably will. Drivers made my system crash even though they WERE signed by XP.

I had about 40 games to install and about 7 of them wouldnt run under XP. Rollercoaster Tycoon is a dos based game. It would run but it wouldnt save, not even to a floppy. Star Trek Hidden Evil refused to install no matter what.

Try it if you want to. But before you go to and NTFS system try installing it under dos/98/ME and see if it works. PArt of the problems were caused by NTFS for sure.

I really recommend 512 meg of ram or higher. The more the better.
