Two pilots were injured when a passenger went amok with an axe on a flight from Narvik to Bodø in the north of Norway. A passenger was also injured in the attack. The assailant, an asylum seeker from Algeria, was arrested at Bodø airport around 11 a.m. on Wednesday.

"Two pilots and a passenger are injured. They were injured with an axe," Margrete Torseter, duty lawyer at Salten police district, told Aftenposten's Internet edition. "There is nothing to indicate that the alleged perpetrator used an axe that he had taken on board," Torseter said.

Flight leader Leif Sandham at Kato Air said that a crisis team was being assembled to take care of passengers and employees.

Police operation leader Arve Westgaard said that the axe used was taken from an overhead rack, and is carried on board to smash windows in an emergency situation.

"The man has been living in recent weeks at an asylum center in northern Norway," Westgaard said, and added that terrorism was not an aspect of the attack.

The funny twist to this is: Two passengers on the plane rescued everybody by overpowering the man with the axe, and pulling him out of the cockpit. The injured pilots managed to stop the fall only 100 feet above the ground. It was literally seconds from disaster. The funny part: One of the two persons who beat the Algerian, Odd Eriksen, is a Socialist politician, who until a couple of years ago served as a Member of Parliament for the Labor party. Who would have thought: A Socialist turns out to be a mean fighting machine!

Euro Socialist politician kicks ass of Jihadist axe-man!

"We can be happy that it went as well as it did," Vangen said. The plane went into a spin during the attack and the wounded pilots only regained control over the aircraft 30 meters above the ground.

Two of the passengers managed to drag the man out of the cockpit and force him down on the floor.

The media here are careful not to mention the word "terrorism," and claim that the Arab man was "mentally unbalanced." What they are quiet about is the fact that he served as an imam for the local congregation:

However, according to this article from Norway's largest newspaper, the man was not yet an imam, but was trying to become one. He is described as a "very religious Muslim" that campaigned to open a mosque in the local municipality.

I take it you just posted an article and that these aren't your words, morgeruat? 'Cause this article is just plain terrible... What's so special about one of the passengers overpowering the hijacker being a Socialist politician, anyway?

Exactly which article is "just plain terrible", Grojlach? I checked out all 4 links and didn't see anything "terrible" about any of them (well, except for a rather bigoted post on the forum from the 3rd link). Aside from that, I didn't see anything I would have considered "terrible".

Morgeruat's post in its entirety, actually, of which I assume (hope?) he has copy/pasted from somewhere else. I really don't see how this news is anything special just because there's a socialist involved, nor why the writer of that bit thinks it's such a great joke that he feels the need to announce it twice. The links in Morgeruat's post actually lead to more neutral and less prejudiced reports, and I really don't see how you even end up from those reports to some rambling how "funny" and remarkable it is that a socialist saved the day with a forceful action. Instead, focus on the good news that a hijacker has been stopped with the help of some passengers; the identity of the passengers is simply irrelevant, and I think it's rather tasteless to indirectly imply that an act of heroism by a "socialist" is so remarkable that it even deserves its own headline.

Totally bizarre comment. Socialists don't/can't fight?

Personally I love a row!

I have to agree with the overall sentiment here, why the "socialist" mentioning ? What's so special about this to bring that up ? Socialists aren't human ? They can't come up for themselves ? Would this article even be in the news if there wasn't a socialist involved ?

Piece of crap article from a piece of crap journalist.

Well, the news about this made it here from our neighbours in the west, so it's at least somewhat worthwhile as news. I don't remember if any of the articles mentioned the political affiliation of politician, but that piece of info usually surface sooner or later.

When your life is on the line, even the most craven coward could put up a fight.

I could give your two very good examples where that didn't happen.
