For one thing, Lanthir, the Baptist church is not set up the same way as the Catholic church.
We don't have altar boys or confession or any other activities that allow church officials to have any "one-on-one" time with young boys or girls. We do have special classes on Sunday evenings for young boys and girls who want to learn how to be better witnesses for Christ, but there are usually several children and at least two adults in each class. The Catholic church seems to be unique in allowing priests a large amount of unsupervised time with young kids. Also, Baptists don't have to take a vow of celibacy to become preachers or deacons, so don't have to repress their sex drive the way Catholic priests and nuns do.

This way be a bit flippant, but this weeks Private Eye covered the story with the following headlines:
Pope admits - "There may be Peadophiles in the Priesthood.". Pope admits - "I am a Catholic.". Bear admits - "Ok, on occasion, I may have shat in the woods.". Simple, but sadly quite effective I feel.

What I saw was blatant admitting that it happened, but they didn't want to go broke admitting it. Celibacy is the crux of the matter... and there has been talk of abolishing that... but only talk at this point. It would probably cut down on the horrendous consequences if they went the way of most religions and allowed marriage among the clergy. I await with baited breath.

wow nice to know you are anti-catholic. Um I guess the fact that there are cases of babtist among other churchs where the ministers have abused children does not matter to you. That was my point. I tdoes seem when it is the catholic church they love to attack it. I am not defending the church or their actions. What does upset me is the type of response that was posted above Cerek. As for the fact I used Babtist that was just because of some incidents in my area wher the local ministers was convicted of abusing children. I am sure there are other religions that also have this problem.

Charaen isn't anti-Catholic, nor are most of the thousands who feel outraged about this. There IS a big difference between what the Catholic church has done, as an entity, that makes them different from other religions. They have admitted during this trial, that they have used their power to move priests from the areas they could have been charged, and used their power as a sanctuary to protect their priesthood. They have admitted to doing this MANY times. The priest this is all about is a REPEAT offender, and the church has known about it. They use their power to "absolve" him, and then moved him to another community. They've done this before. and they will continue to do it, as long as people let them.

I was a foster parent for a kid who was molested and raped repeatedly by her stepfather. This stuff really gets to me. Try really reading my message before condemning me.

you made par to fmy point. you don't read it in the news that much do you. Aslo other religons do things too is my point. However everyone jumps on the catholics. I agree what happen was bad. I also dissagree with other things the church does. My point is that when other thing shappen in other churchs it does not get the same kinda press. Asd for the anti catholic in your post the fact that you do not see it is the problem.

You dont hear about other churches as much because they are allowed to have wives and dont build up sexual urges and because most other churches would turn their clergy in to the cops or at least strip them of their priesthood if they did this sort of thing but the catholic church pays off the familys to keep it quiet and transfers the priest. Is that even legal? If I killed someones child and payed them off to keep it quiet would I be immune to prosecution if the cops somehow found out? The catholic church is lucky they dont all get charged as accessory's to the crime.

I said it before and I'll say it again, no one has the right to do something like that to a child. It doesn't matter if it's the butcher down the road, the President or the Pope, they are all guilty and in my opinion they should recieve nothing less then a life sentance or the chair. You might think it harsh but how would you feel if you grew up knowing that you were sexually molested as a child, and more horrible then that by a priest, someone who is supposed to spread the good word of God. Personally if that happened to me I wouldn't go within a mile of another priest, let alone believe what they said. They practically ruined one person's life and they should get off with a slap on a wrist, and so they are given the oppertunity to do it again. People deserve a right to know where the priest is sent, so that they're aware.
I hope that justice will truly be served and if not on this life, then in the next. |
