I just got my Midgets roasted in the 8th chamber, under the monastary. I had to reload many, many times before I finally completed the task. I tried and failed, wth each of my party, I never appeared to have enough fire resistance no matter which spells I used. Eventually found a set of tactics for my F/M but it was very hard. So is there a smart way to do this chamber or is it just a question of having the right skills and a high enough level.

Chamber of Battle?
In my first game i used a monk and he passed all chambers fairly easily. My second game with HoF mode i didnt have a monk... used a druid with protection from evil (he had 1 level of cleric of bane) and summon nature ally 7,8,9 which brings elementals...

Its the Chamber of Immolation where all of the fire columns come down on your head and you fight the fire monks. Its tricky...i used an aasimar priest, because of the natural resistance to fire and to protecting spells

Drow, Aasimar and Monks excell in this due to their resistance to spells or fire. A druid is also a great choice for this room, due to his elemental summons and shapechangings. If you don't have any of these, pick your strongest barbarian or fighter.

Thanks for the info guys. As I thought I don't have many of the required skills within my party, neither does it appear that my levels are as high as some people. I love to summon Fire Elementals, but alas I don't yet have that ability, so I had to make do with lesser allies. Still I got through eventually and we are progressing onwards and upwards.

That last chamber is a fairly tough battle. In my first game I used a pure Monk all the way through and it wasn't so bad. This time I had a Monk but he was part thief so a little weaker. So this time I used a combination, of Druid, Fighter, and Cleric to make it through the chambers. The Cleric was best for the area with all the little spiders, and the last chamber. He just cleaned up the spider area due to that spell that surrounds him with blades. In the fire area I used a combination of Heal, and the throwing items from the wall, while avoiding the fire, and not going toe to toe with them close combat until I had first killed one using the throwing axes and darts. A priest of Tempos works quite well in this room due to his proficiency with axes, and ability to heal himself if he needs to. The thing with midgets is they seem to have shorter legs and are a little slower running away from the fire. My dwarf fighter got roasted in this room despite all his hit points and that is why I switched to the human cleric. A Monk is great because it evades the fire most of the time, can heal himself once to get a few hit points back, and does not have to run to the wall for the weapons.

I had trouble with this battle the first time, too. But my thiefling fighter/thief was able to do it, with 2 health left...
Thiefling absorb the first 5 fire damage.

I agree that speed and agility are important here, once my Fighter/Illusionist had Haste and Mirror Image he was able to control the fight. I also summoned a Lemure (spelling?) with Fire Resistance to help me, which is not one of the more common monsters that turn up in the game.
Anyway thanks for your comments.
