On some of my characters there is a red outline on the paper doll in the inventory screen. It is usually on the weapon slot but it can also be on the shield slot. What does this mean?

It means that the weapon should be repaired shortly.
It starts looking red when the damage is 10%, but after that it detoriates faster, so don't wait too long. If the damage gets above 30% it might break at any moment. Toughness helps preserve weapons. Armor doesn't get damaged (although you can find it with damage), so even when it's red it will never break. |

Thanks a bunch
I looked in the manual to see if I could find anything on this and unless I missed it, nothing was there. |

Manual, page 62 under Inventory Management. I thought I'd read something about damaged weapons...

It's a good idea to check once in a while, I was heading out on a quest, went to load my weapon on one charater and found, to my surprise he didn't have it anymore. It had disintergrated from toomuch damage.

Carg - I didn't say that right . . . I should have said: "My weapons seem to quit taking damage, rather than quit needing repair" Sorry. Self-repairing weapons would be nice! Yes, towards the end I started upping forge, just too many other things to raise, but it is nice to know what level I am shooting for. Thanks.

If the weapon is special you could remove it to inventory . . . would this protect it until you can get it repaired? At some point some of my weapons seem to quit needing repair. Others were so high I couldn't repair them myself.

Weapons in inventory won't get damaged any further, so you can save your special weapon from breaking that way. I've never seen anything indicating there are self-repairing weapons, so "weapons quit needing repair" is new for me.
Tip: you need the same level forge to repair a weapon as you need the level artifacts to identify it. |
