Welcome to Ironworks!
Balintheras' method is just about the only way you can do it. You can find a link to an editor, Shadowkeeper, in the forum FAQ sticky thread. You don't really have to do that, though. Unlike BG1, enemies in BG2 are adjusted to your experience level. So you're not really giving yourself an advantage in the long run. And BG2 hands out experience like Halloween candy anyway. You'll have to download ShadowKeeper (BG2 editor) to edit your stats. Sounds like this is your first time through, though, so don't abuse SK, it'll ruin your game.

I think this is what you're trying to do:
1)Export you're BG1 Character. 2)Move the character file (in the folder BG1/characters)to the BG2 character folder ( BG2/characters). 3)Start a new game and choose to import a character. You're character should be there. 4)Redistribute certain aspects of you're character because much has changed since BG1. 5)Start playing and have fun.

oh well thanx for all your help. i had taken the cap off of bg1 and leveled up my characters legit so im going to opt not to use a character editor. i'll just let the exp get cut down. besides pirengles right they do hand out explike candy.
