You usually have to go see the count/mayor of the town in question to buy a house, with some exceptions. For example anvil's house if bought from someone else and has a quest to it.

There is a nice house in Chorrol for 15,000 plus
you need to buy furniture for another 8k, there is plenty of storage. There is a small broken down house in Leyawiin for 7k and another 5k for the bed and furniture. Those are the only two I have so far and they're good enough to dump your stuff and sleep for the night. I guess there is a Mansion in the Imperial City some place but I haven't even been there yet. I figure it will be 30k to 150k But really have no Idea! it is said you can buy a home in every major city. [ 03-28-2006, 08:00 PM: Message edited by: TheCrimsomBlade ]

In the imperial city it's a little shack in the waterside district and it's the cheapest.
I got the Bruma one, I think it was 15k or so. The mansion is in anvil but you have to do a quest for it too.

There are cheap shacks in Bravil and the Imperial City. Talk to the count in Bravil, dunno how to buy the one in the Imperial City.

I went with the one in Bravil first, it's nice and cheap, and one of the Thieves guild fences lives right above you, can't pick a better place to start and build a treasury for yourself. Right now i have a house in each of the towns, although that's not really necessary. I didn't have a clue what else to do with my money though.

Houses sound good, but let's say that i'm a poor ass Blade running around closing gate after gate, spending ALL my dosh recharging magical equipment. Where do i store the stuff that i do want? The stuff that's weighing me down preventing me from dragging any valuable loot out of those gates - the stuff that's keeping me broke!
In MW, any "dungeon" you cleared out could be your home. Is there a way to claim a place of your own in Oblivion?

Yep. Claim an Oblivion gate
Seriously though, you could possibly clear out an Ayleid ruin, and have that be your home. That's pure speculation, though. |

Hey, can you just murd---I mean "evict" a house's denizens, and live there? I haven't checked it out yet, but it sure worked in Morrowind

Nope, not as far as i know, the place has to be your property, otherwise there's no telling wheter your loot is safe or not.
