I'm in a rather odd situation. Today, I was supposed to have started a multiplayer game with two friends. But regardless of who was hosting, we could not see the game on gamespy, nor could we use direct_connect. (server timed out) Is this a common problem, for I'd hate to have wasted my whole saturday afternoon looking for a solution.
edit: for the record, none of them appeared on my buddy-list either. [ 03-04-2006, 11:37 AM: Message edited by: Dreamer128 ] |

Hmmm was the person hosting the server behind a router ?
If he was then you will need to get the router IP address and what port you connect on. Then in the router setup forward that port to the host machine behind the router.

Usually, even through a router, they will show up on the buddy list. Had a similar problem before on GameSpy. However, direct connecting worked, if I remember correctly. I would check if you have the correct IP for direct connect as well. I think the default port that NWN's uses is :5121, but it could be something different.

Thanks for the advice guys, the odd thing is, all three of us took a shot at hosting, and in none of the occasions could any of us find the server. In the end, we decided to take a shot at Undermountain, which kept us busy till' half past two in the morning. Since we're still planning on playing through the single-player campaign as well, I'll take your advice to heart. I'll doublecheck my IP and I'll look into 'forwarding the port'. I'm not the most technical person around, but I do believe there are some excellent online guides on this topic.

Just remember the SIngle player campains are not designed for multi player and there may be some problems with some of the cut scenes etc and players not being teleported or given items.

Actually, The OC, and Shadows are multiplayer compatible, it's only Hordes that got butchered up for Multiplay. In fact, while I have beat Shadows, I never did finish it in Single Player. One of my gaming mates and I did it in Multi Player, in one session.
